Madison Chock has visions of gliding into the fashion world.
Following her and her husband, Evan Bates’, success at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy – where they won both a silver and a gold medal – she suggested she might be ready to move on from competitive figure skating.
The 33-year-old shared with TopMob News that she’s hoping to pursue a career in design, possibly creating costumes for skating, fashion, or film. She said it seems like a really enjoyable path, and she’s open to seeing what opportunities arise.
Madi is already building a name for herself as a designer. She frequently creates custom outfits, and is even known to design looks for other skaters – sometimes even those she competes against – to wear during their performances.
However, the 33-year-old has her sights set on other ventures.
Madi said there are a lot of possibilities ahead. After spending most of their lives at the ice rink, they’re eager to discover new experiences, stay curious, and keep learning and exploring.
Madi loves fashion, and Evan fully supports her design aspirations. He’s her biggest fan and champion when it comes to her creative pursuits outside of skating.
According to a recent interview, her colleague believes Madi is poised for success in the fashion world. He highlighted her talent as a designer, noting she creates costumes not only for their team but also for many of their rivals, leaving her future possibilities open-ended.

Evan explained that deciding what to do after the Olympics is a team effort, just like their skating. They discuss their future occasionally, but mostly focus on the present. The 36-year-old emphasized they’re excited about what’s happening now and want to savor these next few months. While they know change is inevitable, they’re not rushing into anything and will address the transition when the time comes.
He shared that they’ve discussed starting a family in the future. They’ve also talked about remaining involved with skating, as it’s a passion of theirs and has given them so much. They’d like to contribute back to the skating world, perhaps through coaching or performing.
It’s clear that Madi and Evan have an unbreakable connection, whether they’re skating together or not. They beautifully demonstrated this strong partnership at the Olympics, making their debut as a married couple.
Madi explained that getting married strengthened their bond and dedication to their sport. They already had a strong connection through skating, but marriage has made them true partners, supporting each other in everything they do, both on and off the ice.
She explained that now that they are married, their close connection will continue throughout their lives, in everything they do.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always inspired by incredible partnerships, and Team Canada’s mixed doubles curling duo truly embodies that! They’re not just life partners, but also reigning world champions, and they’re setting their sights on bringing home an Olympic medal – it’s a fantastic story of dedication and teamwork, and I’m rooting for them!
Brett and Jocelyn’s successful partnership began in 2016. Brett initially contacted Jocelyn through Facebook, looking for a curling teammate – he told CBC Sports it was purely about her skills. Jocelyn remembers it differently, saying there was definitely some flirting involved.
They met in person just a few days before the national championship in Saskatoon—and they won.
Oh my gosh, Brett and I just got each other right away! It was instant, honestly – both on the curling rink and as friends. It’s like we’re cut from the same cloth, you know? We both have this fire inside, this need to win. It’s amazing to find someone who gets that competitive drive!
They began dating shortly before both competed in the 2022 Olympics—he on the men’s team, and she on the women’s.
Brett returned from Beijing with a bronze medal. He married Jocelyn in June, and they had a son named Luke in 2023. Now, they’re both preparing to compete as a team in mixed doubles at the 2026 Olympics.
Luke constantly talks about competing in the Olympics,” Jocelyn shared with Olympics.com. “However, I don’t think he fully understands just how special and amazing that would be.
Brett and his wife, Jocelyn, have long dreamed of competing in the Olympics. ‘We’ve been motivated to reach the biggest stage for a while now,’ Brett explained. Jocelyn added that they deeply appreciate and cherish every chance they get to compete together, viewing it as a special family experience.

Kim, representing Belgium in skeleton racing, and Nicole, from Brazil, revealed they were in a relationship two months before the 2022 Beijing Olympics. At the Games, Kim finished 18th and Nicole placed 13th.
More recently, Kim took silver and Nicole scored bronze at the 2025 St. Moritz World Cup.
In a 2024 interview with the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Foundation, Kim, 29, explained that competing against her then-fiancée was actually less difficult than being apart. She said, ‘At least we get to do everything together and have fun with it,’ suggesting they enjoyed sharing the experience.
Both Nicole and Kim are fiercely competitive and dislike losing. When Nicole proposed during a private boat trip in Brazil in the summer of 2024, Kim was actually a little frustrated, as she had already purchased the same ring with the intention of proposing herself.
“I won that competition,” Nicole quipped.
Although they’re planning a large beach wedding for late 2026, Nicole and her partner officially got married on January 8, 2025, with a simple civil ceremony in Calgary, where Nicole is a nurse.
We’re excited to start this big season, which could be our last Olympic Games, and our marriage has brought a deeper commitment to each other. No matter what challenges come our way this year, our relationship is our top priority.
They also shared that it would be particularly meaningful to compete as a married couple, and to raise awareness for marriage equality if they did.

Luge athletes Emily and Dominik are known for speed, and they applied that same energy to planning their wedding! After getting the necessary permissions, they organized the entire event in just nine days, and it will take place in Dominik’s home country of Italy in May 2025.
They didn’t rush into marriage, having first become a couple 15 years earlier when they were both young athletes competing internationally. Returning to the Olympics – his fourth time and her third – Emily explained to the Associated Press that it felt like they were building a life together, rather than just focusing on the moment.
And Dominik, who took the bronze in men’s luge in Beijing, doesn’t want to rock the sled.
Emily came back to competing after nine months, but Dominik was deeply shaken when she fractured her neck and back in a crash at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
Dominik explained to the Associated Press in 2026 that he feels his daughter’s pain intensely – far more than she does herself. Because of this, he gets incredibly anxious when she’s competing, and often finds it hard to watch her races.
Both athletes will be supporting each other as they compete in what could be their last Olympic Games, racing down the track at the Cortina Sliding Center.
“We’re here. We’re happy,” Dominik said. “And we’re having a good life.

The captain of the U.S. women’s hockey team and a seasoned speed skater share a unique Olympic connection – they had their first date during the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Brittany, 37, shared with People magazine in January that she and Hilary had been acquainted for years through various Team USA competitions. However, they didn’t truly get a chance to connect until recently. ‘Hilary would often ask if I wanted to go for a walk after dinner,’ she said.
Hilary, 36, told NBC Olympics that their walks with full face masks weren’t exactly romantic, but she did find them endearing.
Brittany shared that they were able to really connect because they didn’t have the usual distractions of family and friends. They had plenty of time to simply get to know one another, she explained.
While she won a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters, she said finding a girlfriend was the most important and rewarding part of her experience in Beijing.
The couple now lives in Salt Lake City and enjoys playing pickleball and gardening when they’re not competing. Hilary, a key player for the Seattle Torrent hockey team, will be competing in her fifth and final Olympics. Meanwhile, Brittany, the most experienced member of the U.S. speedskating team, is retiring after competing in four Olympic Games.
Brittany told NBC Olympics that she feels like a veteran in the world of sports. After a long and successful career, she’s ready for the next chapter and excited to see what the future holds.

Madison and Evan, who helped the U.S. win team gold in figure skating in 2022, are hoping to finally earn an Olympic medal as a duo at their fourth Winter Olympics.
Although the three-time Olympic gold medalists haven’t confirmed if Milan Cortina will be their last Games, they are fully enjoying the experience.
Evan, 36, shared with TopMob News in December that they’ve been working diligently and putting in long hours, but remain thankful for each day and the chance to do so.
Evan and Madison began skating together in 2011. Five years later, in 2021, Evan told Olympics.com that he had confessed his romantic feelings for Madison, saying, “I love you. I want to be more than just skating partners.”
They felt the same way about each other, and after dating for ten more years, they got married in June 2024.
Madison, 33, explained to TopMob that getting married has strengthened her and her partner’s bond and dedication to both each other and their skating. They already had a strong connection through skating, but marriage has made them true partners, supporting each other’s goals both on and off the ice.

Kaysha was a track athlete at UNLV when a bobsled coach asked her to try out for the team at a training camp in Lake Placid in 2020.
I’d dedicated eight years to a sport I truly loved and felt passionate about, so when he suggested I try something completely new – a sport I’d only seen in the movie Cool Runnings – I was understandably reluctant,” the 28-year-old explained to Bustle. “But he pointed out the Olympics were just over a year away, and that’s what I’d been working towards my entire athletic life.
Not only did she make it to the 2022 Beijing Games, but she also convinced Hunter Powell, a talented decathlete from Colorado State, to give bobsledding a try. It turned out he was exceptionally well-suited for the sport, both as an athlete and a personality.
Kaysha shared with the AP that having a teammate who completely trusts and believes in her is a huge advantage. Knowing she has that support allows her to push her limits and achieve amazing things.
Hunter, who got engaged in July, shared on Colorado State Rams Live how incredible it feels to be an Olympian, saying ‘words can’t describe’ the experience. He added that it’s ‘even more special’ because he’s been able to travel the world with his fiancé, and they’re both achieving the dreams they’ve worked towards.
Kaysha shared with Bustle that she and her partner are planning to get a large schnauzer dog after the Olympics, and they’re getting married on September 3rd.
I’ve been keeping busy with wedding planning to take my mind off tough training days, so we’ve already planned almost everything for the wedding! We’re both really excited about it.

The Italian ice dancers have been competing together as a romantic couple for 15 years.
Marco shared with Olympics.com in November 2024 that while replicating their individual accomplishments would be great, achieving them as a couple is even more rewarding. He explained that sharing such strong feelings and emotions with the person you love and plan to spend your life with makes the experience even better.
Charlene explained that competitive skating requires immense dedication. Skaters typically begin training at a very young age, making it a complete way of life. It’s challenging, and success demands both mental and physical toughness, along with a true passion for the sport.
But contrary to how it sounds, the pair don’t live and breathe ice dancing.
Living in Milan makes this their fourth Olympics particularly easy, but their home gives no hint that champion figure skaters reside there.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Marco told me they keep all their medals locked away in a special box! Can you believe it? Not a single photo anywhere in their apartment! He explained it’s so important to them to keep their skating life separate from their personal life, to really be just Marco and his partner at home. He actually said that’s the secret to why they’ve stayed strong, why they’re still skating, and why they’re still together! It’s so sweet and honestly, a little heartbreaking, but I totally get it. They need that separation!
He described having a life outside of hockey, explaining that even simple things like sharing meals, cooking, or going to the movies create a different dynamic. He put it simply: they have a relationship with two distinct sides – their professional lives and their personal lives.

Okay, so this is how it happened, as far as I can piece it together from interviews and stuff. It was 2017, at a Team Canada thing, and they were both looking up at the night sky. Apparently, a shooting star zipped across it, and they both saw it. But here’s the crazy part – they looked at each other right after, and it was like they instantly knew they were the only two who’d actually shared that moment. Seriously, it sounds like something out of a movie! I’ve read every article about it, and it was instant. They just knew.
“The city lights were incredible the weekend we got married,” Poulin shared with CBC Sports in November 2024. “It felt really special, like there were stars all around. I think those moments are meant to be.”
Oh, it was so frustrating watching them! They weren’t instantly the powerhouse we know now, you know? And that 2018 Olympic silver medal… it killed me. I could just feel how much it devastated Marie-Philip Poulin, like she thought she’d failed all of Canada. It was heartbreaking, honestly. She’s such a leader, and she took that loss so hard.
“I didn’t want to see anybody,” the 34-year-old center recalled, “and I was just really on my own.”
Stacey recalled that they simply stopped communicating. She wasn’t speaking to her friend and felt ready to move forward with her life.
Poulin and Stacey reconnected over dinner when their teams, the Montreal Canadiennes and the Markham Thunder, played each other that fall. Notably, they also both won gold medals at the 2022 Olympics.
The upcoming Milan Cortina Olympics will be Stacey’s third and Poulin’s fifth. This will be their first Olympics as a married couple, having wed in September 2024.
Stacey described how her wife presents herself to the world. ‘Everyone sees her as a hockey player, and that’s all they know,’ she explained. ‘While the world recognizes her incredible skill on the ice, they don’t see the amazing person she is off the rink.’
