Mae Whitman Shares Rare Photo With Partner Carlos Valdes

Parenthood looks good on Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes.

The actress and her partner, who have a 14-month-old son named Miles, generally keep their relationship out of the public eye, but she recently offered a small peek into their life together as they begin a new phase.

I went to a wedding and, as you can see, I’ve been experimenting with Photoshop! (Yes, I’m your grandmother!),” she wrote in an October 27th Instagram post, while sporting a black, long-sleeved sequined dress.

Mae shared altered photos featuring herself and Carlos, who was wearing a brown suit and patterned tie, supposedly at the entrance to “Hell.” She also posted images of herself with a reindeer, nude statues, a dachshund, and enormous meerkats.

As a big fan, I was so thrilled to see those photos! They gave such a sweet and rare glimpse into what life is like for the stars of Up Here now that they’re parents. Honestly, I was really surprised when the Independence Day actress announced her son Miles’ arrival back in August 2024 – it was a lovely surprise!

Okay, so I’m totally freaking out right now! Mae just announced she had a baby boy, Miles, and honestly, same! I feel like I gave birth too! She said the second they heard his little squeaks – she called it his ‘tiny piggy mouth,’ which is the cutest thing EVER – they were completely and utterly in love. I mean, I get it! I’m obsessed already!

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Mae just told us the sweetest thing about how she named her baby! Apparently, little Miles is named after Miles Heizer, you know, ‘Uncle’ from Parenthood? He played Amber’s brother on the show, and Mae was Amber! It’s just…so perfect and full circle! I’m seriously melting right now.

Just recently, this past March, actress Lauren Graham, who played their mom on screen, revealed who Miles’ father actually is.

During a March 10th interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the former Parenthood star shared that they are currently in New York. She mentioned that Carlos Valdes, the father of her child, is performing in the Broadway show Hadestown, and she happily recommended seeing it because he’s a talented performer.

Around the same time, Carlos announced the birth of his child, but didn’t say anything about his connection to Mae.

Carlos recently became a father, as he shared in an interview with People magazine on March 3rd. He prefers to keep details about his family life private, but joked that balancing Broadway and fatherhood is definitely challenging!

Look back at the Parenthood cast, then and now…

Immediately after his character Zeek Braverman died in the final episode of Parenthood, actor Craig T. Nelson quickly moved on to his next project.

That same year, he made guest appearances in five episodes of the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, and also starred in the films Gold and Book Club. In 2018, he reprised his role as Mr. Incredible in Incredibles 2, and since 2019, he’s had a recurring role as Coach Dale Ballard on Young Sheldon.

In 2025, the actor starred in the film Green and Gold.

Since her role as Camille Braverman ended, Bonnie Bedelia has been in five episodes of Designated Survivor, two Hallmark Christmas movies (A Joyous Christmas in 2017 and Christmas on the Coast in 2018), the films A Very Sordid Wedding and The Scent of Rain & Lightning, and one episode of Renée Zellweger’s quirky Netflix series, What/If.

Most recently, she was seen in Dennis Quaid‘s based-on-a-true-story 2023 biopic The Hill.

After wrapping up my time on Parenthood as Adam Braverman, I quickly found myself in another exciting project! I starred in The Catch, a show produced by the amazing Shonda Rhimes, though it didn’t last too long. Then, in 2018, I landed the lead role on Ryan Murphy’s 9-1-1 on Fox, and that’s been an incredible ride – playing a first responder is so rewarding!

He’s also acted in the films Night Owls and Saint Judy. He even made a brief appearance in an episode of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which starred his then-girlfriend Lauren Graham, playing the role of Park Ranger #2.

After playing Kristina Braverman, Monica Potter starred in the CBS drama Wisdom of the Crowd, but the show was cancelled after just 13 episodes in 2017.

From 2019 to 2021, she guest-starred in three episodes of the Amazon Prime Video series Goliath, and also appeared in the 2022 series Classified.

Since 2014, she’s been running Monica Potter Home, a business selling high-end home goods, natural skincare, and decor. In 2017, she and her family – including her mother and sisters who all work with her – appeared on the CNBC show The Profit, hoping Marcus Lemonis could help turn the company around. Ultimately, she decided not to accept his offer, which would have given him a 50% ownership stake.

In 2018, she and Daniel Christopher Allison, her husband of 13 years, filed for divorce.

Sarah Ramos returned for the final episode of the show to bring her character, Haddie, back together with the Braverman family. She had previously been a regular cast member but moved to a recurring role in season four when her character went to college. Since then, she’s appeared in films like How to Be Single (2016) and guest-starred on shows including Drunk History, The Affair, The Bear, and The Long Road Home. She also played a main role in the first season of NBC’s Midnight, Texas.

She not only acted in projects, but also directed and wrote the short film Fluffy and the web series City Girl. In 2019, she became engaged to Matt Spicer, the director of Ingrid Goes West, and they married the next year.

Since his role as Max Braverman, Max Burkholder has been in several films, including Babysitter, Almost Home, Imaginary Order, and Benjamin. He’s also made guest appearances on the TV show The Orville and provided voice work for episodes of American Dad! and Family Guy.

He appeared in Queen Latifah’s Quibi series, When the Street Lights Go On, and also lent his voice to the animated superhero drama Invincible on Amazon Prime Video.

Most recently, he starred opposite the titual bear in Peacock’s 2024 series Ted

Following her appearance as Sarah Braverman, Lauren Graham reprised her famous role as Lorelai Gilmore in the 2016 Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Since then, she’s been on shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and provided voice work for the Disney Junior series Vampirina. She also had roles in the NBC musical drama Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and the Disney+ revival of Mighty Ducks.

She’s continued writing after her first novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe (2013), and recently published a collection of personal essays called Talking as Fast as I Can: from Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between).

In 2025, the actress starred in the Tubi series The Z-Suite.

Since playing Sarah’s daughter Amber Holt, Mae Whitman has kept busy.

She’s lent her voice to characters like Batgirl in DC Super Hero Girls and April O’Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and has appeared in films such as The Duff, CHIPS, and Duck Butter. You might also recognize her from TV shows like Drunk History and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

And from 2018 to 2021, she starred as Annie Marks in NBC’s dramedy Good Girls.

She shared the exciting news in May 2024 that she was pregnant with her first child. Then, in July, she announced the arrival of her son, Miles, who she named after her former “Parenthood” co-star, Miles Heizer.

Since finishing his role on Drew Holt, Miles Heizer has been in several films, including The Stanford Prison Experiment, Nerve, Roman J. Israel, Esq., and Love, Simon. He also made a guest appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race and is best known for his starring role in the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

I’ve been so fortunate to work with some amazing brands! After being part of GAP’s fun Logo Remix campaign in 2018, I was thrilled to also collaborate with Coach for their fall and winter 2019 collections. It was a really exciting time!

After playing Julia Braverman-Graham on the TV show Parenthood, Erika Christensen quickly landed a leading role in ABC’s Wicked City, though that show didn’t last long.

She’s appeared in several TV movies, including Hallmark’s Anything for Love, HBO’s Confirmation, and Lifetime’s The Follower. She’s also been in the films All at Once and The Case for Christ, and had a role in the short-lived 2017 ABC series Ten Days in the Valley.

Since 2023, she’s starred as Angie on the network’s Will Trent

After portraying Joel Graham, Sam Jaeger has appeared in several popular television series, including Law & Order True Crime, Tell Me a Story, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Politician, and Why Women Kill.

He also appeared in Jessica Chastain‘s Tammy Faye Bakker biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

I’ll never forget Savannah Paige Rae as Sydney Braverman on Parenthood – she was brilliantly awful! It’s funny, she actually appeared in the Grey’s Anatomy episode where Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) passed away, and she jokes about it on Instagram, saying she’s the character everyone loves to hate from Parenthood and the one everyone blames for Derek’s death! She even asks for forgiveness, which is hilarious. It’s amazing how memorable she was in both shows!

Xolo Maridueña joined the show as Victor initially as a guest star in season three, and later became a main cast member for the final three seasons.

Following a farewell to Julia and Joel’s son, he appeared in guest roles on the shows Rush Hour and Twin Peaks. He then went on to become a main cast member on Cobra Kai, a YouTube Premium series that continues the story of The Karate Kid movies.

Since saying goodbye to perennial screw-up Crosby Braverman, Dax Shepard has kept busy.

He’s worked as a writer, director, and actor in the feature film CHIPs, and has made guest appearances on shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. He also took over the role of Danny Masterson on Netflix’s The Ranch and starred in the ABC series Bless This Mess.

In 2018, he started his hit podcast, Armchair Expert, where he’s interviewed many well-known people, including his wife, Kristen Bell, Prince Harry, Leslie Odom Jr., John Legend, and others.

Joy Bryant is known for her role as Jasmine Trussell, but she’s also appeared in many other shows, including Rosewood, Girls, Ballers, and Trinkets. More recently, she’s had starring roles in the ABC legal drama For Life and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Tyree Brown, known for his charming role as Jabbar, the son of Crosby and Jasmine, on the show for six seasons, has continued to build his acting career. He’s appeared in popular series like Criminal Minds and Black-ish, voiced a character in Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade, and had a role in the 2017 film Camp Cool Kids.
