As a devoted Nintendo gamer eagerly anticipating the year ahead, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment knowing that a highly anticipated 2025 game won’t be gracing the screens of Nintendo Switch 2 owners. However, the remainder of this year is shaping up to be an exciting time for us Nintendo fans, with exclusive titles like “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond”, “Drag x Drive”, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment”, and “Kirby Air Riders” all set to drop.
On the one hand, it seems that Nintendo has a strong lineup of exclusives for us this year. But on the flip side, things look a bit lackluster when it comes to third-party games. This is something we’ve grown accustomed to with the Nintendo Switch, as larger developers and creators of AAA games have opted out of the console for various reasons, making it more of an exclusives and indie machine over time.
In other words, a well-known game series from Electronic Arts (EA) that didn’t appear on the Nintendo Switch hasn’t shown up yet on the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. Furthermore, if the latest game in this series, launched post-Nintendo Switch 2, avoids the console, it suggests a potential trend for the rest of its generation, as launch window games are typically highly sought after and popular. However, EA seems to have different plans or may not be keen on the idea altogether.
On September 13th, EA plans to unveil NHL 26, a game that might not appeal to everyone, but is eagerly awaited by many. While the NHL series isn’t as widely recognized as EA’s other sports franchises, it still enjoys a significant following in comparison to most games launched. Regrettably, it missed its entire run on the Nintendo Switch platform, and now appears set to avoid the entire Nintendo Switch 2 generation too. This decision has left some Nintendo enthusiasts, who had anticipated the Nintendo Switch 2 as a fresh beginning, feeling disheartened.
“A recent post on the Nintendo Switch 2 Reddit page stated that ‘NHL 26’ has been announced, but won’t be available for the Switch 2. I wanted to share this news because many people, including myself, were eagerly anticipating the game. I must admit I’m quite disappointed, although I hope it may release next year. At present, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for optimism.”
1. Comment 1: “I was really looking forward to NHL on the Switch 2, but after today’s announcement, I think I might have to let go of that hope.”
2. Comment 2: “This is disappointing! I would love a portable version of it.”
These paraphrased versions maintain the original meaning while making them easier to understand and more conversational in tone.
The peculiar aspect of the situation is that Electronic Arts (EA) is introducing the Madden NFL series to Nintendo fans with Madden NFL 25, set to launch on August 14 across multiple platforms, including the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. This move may hint at the possibility of NHL joining soon, but it could also suggest the opposite since there’s no need to wait. The early availability of development units for Madden NFL might be due to its exclusive binding with the Nintendo Switch 2, and its earlier release date compared to usual. However, if the intention was to bring NHL to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future, such plans would likely have been announced rather than left open to speculation.
