As an observer, I’ve seen how Crunchyroll has been making waves and creating quite a stir in the world of anime streaming, not just online but also on the silver screen. Next week, for instance, they are bringing “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” to North America after its successful run in Japanese theaters. Interestingly, one of the biggest anime films Crunchyroll is bringing to North America this fall has been given a release date, bumping up the movie so that fans can watch it earlier than anticipated.
The animated film adaptation of “Chainsaw Man,” titled “The Reze Arc,” is set to debut in Japan on September 19th this autumn. Originally scheduled for a North American release on October 29th, Crunchyroll has decided to bring the movie earlier to Western theaters on October 24th. This film follows Denji’s action-packed journey and will feature the first encounter between the Chainsaw Devil and the Bomb Devil. Given that Studio MAPPA is fully committed to delivering high-quality animation for Tatsuki Fujimoto’s work, it seems Crunchyroll has great faith in this violent offering within the shonen genre. Although Crunchyroll hasn’t disclosed when the movie will be available on their streaming platform, it’s likely that Denji and his comrades will continue their battles on smaller screens as well.
The Bomb Devil Approaches
If you’re interested in learning more about Denji’s return, Crunchyroll explains that in the upcoming film, Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man – a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now a member of Special Division 4’s team of devil hunters. After having a date with Makima, the woman he admires deeply, Denji finds refuge from the rain. While there, he encounters Reze, a café worker.
For fans of shonen series wondering if the movie Chainsaw Man will lead to a second season, we’ve got some interesting news. In an exclusive interview with Studio MAPPA president Manabu Otsuka, he shared insights about the future of Denji on both big and small screens. Here’s what Otsuka mentioned: “At this point, we’re unsure if this will be a continuing trend or not. However, similar to our approach with Reze, we plan to examine the next story and make a decision based on that. If the upcoming arc suits a film format better or works well as a television season, we’ll decide accordingly, but as of now, we haven’t made that choice yet.
In discussing the move of Chainsaw Man to the big screen, Otsuka delved into the main hurdles faced during this cinematic transformation, “Moving from animation to a movie isn’t significantly different. However, transitioning from television to cinema is more challenging, particularly in terms of sound production. We need to create everything anew for the theater, which requires additional effort. But we believe the hard work will be worth it for the fans. The composer of the soundtrack, Kensuke Ushio, finds this process demanding due to the added workload. Yet, we remain confident that the fans will appreciate both the film and its soundtrack.
