Major Emmerdale character leaves after sword attack and holding three villagers hostage – but will they be back?

Kev Townsend, played by Chris Coghill, has departed from Emmerdale seeking a new beginning, as his attempts to connect with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) were unsuccessful.

The prisoner has been working to reconcile with his husband for several months. He was allowed temporary release from prison on medical leave, claiming to have a serious, incurable heart condition.

It turned out he could have lived for many years if he had received the right medical care.

Kev was in a difficult situation because Robert had started seeing his ex-husband, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), again. Robert then tried to manipulate Kev by pretending his illness was worse than it was to ensure Kev wouldn’t leave him.

Because Robert still thought Kev was dying, he decided to postpone getting back together with him.

After a few weeks, Rob finally told his friend that he no longer had romantic feelings for him. He realized they couldn’t continue their relationship.

Kev fell back into his old habits and robbed a pawn shop. With the stolen money and goods – including a sword he planned to sell – he returned to the village.

Dr. Liam Cavanagh accidentally helped a man escape, and then agreed to help him leave town for good. However, Nicola King overheard their plan and warned the man.

She hoped Kev wouldn’t be sent back to prison so he could get to know his son, Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches).

But in today’s episode, he committed another crime: he held Robron hostage at The Mill, threatened them with a sword, and made one last attempt to win Robert over.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! Just as Kev was about to really hurt Robert with whatever he was wielding, Liam showed up – thankfully, and at the perfect moment. The weapon sliced Robert’s arm, but then the police arrived, though it turned out none of them had actually called for help.

The officers surrounded the building, searching for Caleb Milligan (William Ash). They believed he had information about drug trafficking happening at the depot.

Kev wouldn’t let anyone in, realizing Aaron, Robert, and Liam simply wouldn’t turn him in.

With stolen goods slung over his shoulder, he confidently addressed the officers and then casually walked away as the sun set.

But a final conversation with Lewis left us questioning if he would ever try to reconnect with his son, from whom he’d become distant.

Will we see Kev again? The door has certainly been left open…
