Major Justice League Villain Gets New DC Look After Shocking Transformation

A good heist story always has a surprising twist, and “Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League” by Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott is no exception. But the biggest surprise in this story wasn’t about the robbery itself—it was about how the event changed one of the Justice League’s villains.

The miniseries followed Cheetah and Cheshire as they gathered a team to pull off a major heist. They were after the Power Bank, a device rumored to grant anyone superpowers. In the next-to-last episode, the crew successfully stole the Power Bank from the Justice League’s headquarters, but they were quickly attacked by a group of villains led by Black Adam, who also wanted the device for himself.

Everything went according to plan. The thieves anticipated the Justice League would pursue them, so they deliberately led them away, leaving Adam’s team to handle the chase. It turned out the Power Bank theft wasn’t the main objective – it was a diversion. Their true target was the valuable collection of riches and artifacts in the Justice League’s trophy room, one of which held special meaning for Cheetah.

How Cheetah changes after Justice League heist

In the latest DC Comics stories, archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva was compelled to marry the nature god Urzkartaga. This turned her into a creature that is part cheetah, part human. But because she wasn’t a virgin, Urzkartaga also placed a curse on her, giving her an uncontrollable craving for human meat.

Wonder Woman repeatedly attempted to undo the ritual that had transformed her friend. But Minerva, now enjoying her abilities as Cheetah, wanted to remain in her new form and refused to lift the curse of Urzkartaga. To do this, she went after the idol holding Urzkartaga’s power, which the Justice League was protecting.

Cheetah, with help from the magical Klarion, managed to trap the nature god Urzkartaga on Earth. After that, defeating him and taking his power was easy, even as he pleaded for his life. Once the battle ended, Cheetah had transformed back into Barbara Ann Minerva, losing her tail and cat-like features – only a few faint spots on her skin remained as a hint of her former self.

Whether Cheetah’s recent win has truly changed her beyond just appearance is still unclear. It’s likely the change simply lifted the curse that caused her cannibalistic urges and allowed her to control when she transforms. If so, Cheetah could become even more powerful now that she’s no longer constantly driven by a need for blood. In fact, a sneak peek at an upcoming Justice League Unlimited story hints that she might even try to turn over a new leaf and join the heroes.
