Rumors suggest a big Nintendo Direct is coming soon, and many believe it will finally reveal the new 3D Mario game. If the Direct is as significant as expected, we can anticipate several important announcements. Interestingly, Nintendo may have accidentally revealed one of those announcements themselves.
A recent sale of Bethesda games on the Nintendo Switch in Europe featured artwork from a game that isn’t actually available on the console. Because rumors suggested a Nintendo Direct presentation was planned for this month, it seems this sale was probably intended to coincide with that event.
2025 Hit Coming to Nintendo Switch 2?
The promotional image for the Switch 2 sale features the Doomslayer from DOOM: The Dark Ages. Because this version of the character has a distinct look, it’s clear the image isn’t from one of the earlier DOOM games already on the Nintendo Switch. This raises a question: why advertise a game that isn’t currently available on either Switch console? There are only two possible reasons.
One possibility is that this is simply an error. It’s quite plausible someone at Nintendo, perhaps not in a senior position, created this image and mistakenly thought DOOM: The Dark Ages was available on the Nintendo Switch 2, or didn’t realize how the character’s appearance differs between games. The simplest explanation is often the correct one. However, there’s another possible reason for this.
It’s also possible this information is a legitimate leak – it’s happened before with games and ports. However, we can’t confirm anything for certain at this point, and none of the companies involved have made a statement. We’ll update this article if that changes.
So, last year id Software and Bethesda (now part of Xbox) dropped DOOM: The Dark Ages. It’s the eighth main DOOM game, and the third one since they rebooted the series back in 2016 with just DOOM. Then we got DOOM Eternal in 2020, and now this one. It scored a pretty solid 85 on Metacritic, but honestly, it didn’t seem to fly off the shelves as much as they probably hoped.
