Netflix has long been involved in bringing manga from Shonen Jump to viewers, but they’ve dramatically increased their efforts recently. They’re partnering with different studios to create high-quality adaptations of popular manga, releasing them worldwide. The live-action version of One Piece is a prime example, becoming their most popular live-action series ever. Following this success, Netflix began streaming the Egghead Island Arc, the start of the final story arc for One Piece. They plan to stream the Elbaph Arc as well, and will continue to add new episodes to their library.
Netflix is continuing its strong relationship with popular manga series like Weekly Shonen Jump. Sakamoto Days is a major anime release for the platform, and is currently available only on Netflix. Other popular Shonen Jump anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and My Hero Academia are also streaming there. This trend continues with Akane-banashi, a new anime based on a Weekly Shonen Jump manga, which was announced last year and is now available to stream.
Akane-banashi Will Begin Streaming on Netflix From May
The official English X account for the anime announced in February that its YouTube channel will share new trailers with subtitles in multiple languages. After the broadcast, the channel will also offer full episodes to viewers in North and Latin America. A recent update from the same account provided more information about global streaming plans. Additionally, the official Netflix Anime X account confirmed the anime will begin streaming in parts of Asia on April 5th.
Although the specific date is still to come, fans worldwide will be able to watch the anime on Netflix starting in May. It will be available with both English dubbing and subtitles. Netflix has recently been releasing new seasons of popular anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren, and Hell’s Paradise only in Asia, but because Akane-banashi is a Netflix exclusive, it will become available globally about a month after its initial release in Asia.
What Is The Plot of Akane-banashi?
This story revolves around Rakugo, a traditional Japanese art form of storytelling. While not widely known outside of Japan, it’s recently gained a small following. The main character, Akane Osaki, is a high school student determined to become a skilled Rakugo performer. She’s also driven by a personal quest: to discover the reason her father was unexpectedly dismissed from his position years earlier.
Akane’s father, Shinta Arakawa, was a highly respected Rakugo storyteller until he was unexpectedly dismissed just before reaching the top rank, shin’uchi. Now, in the traditionally male world of Rakugo, Akane is determined to achieve shin’uchi herself and clear her father’s name, believing he was unfairly treated by those in power.
