Man of Tomorrow has received a huge casting update.
The next Superman movie from DC Studios and Warner Bros. is planned for release in U.S. theaters in 2027. James Gunn is again writing and directing the film, which continues the story started in 2025’s Superman. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will return as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively.
What is the Man of Tomorrow update?
Rumors have been circulating that Maxima, a DC Comics character first introduced in 1989, will appear in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow. Now, a new report from Deadline confirms her inclusion, and three actresses are reportedly being considered for the role.
I’m hearing some exciting news about Zack Snyder’s Man of Tomorrow! Apparently, the screen tests are underway to find the actress who’ll play Maxima, and Marisa Abela, Adria Arjona, and Ella Purnell are all in the running. It’s great to see such talented actresses being considered for the part, and I’m really curious to see who ultimately gets the role.
Marisa Abela is an actress who’s gained recognition for her roles as Yasmin Kara-Hanani in the HBO series Industry and as Amy Winehouse in the 2024 film Back to Black. She’s also been in several other movies, including Rogue Agent (2022), Barbie (2023), and the upcoming Black Bag (2025). She’s also set to star in the remake of Highlander alongside Henry Cavill.
Adria Arjona played the character Bix Caleen in the Star Wars series Andor. She’s also appeared in several films, including The Belko Experiment (2016), Pacific Rim Uprising (2018), 6 Underground (2019), Morbius (2022), Hit Man and Blink Twice (both 2024), and the upcoming movie Splitsville (2025).
Ella Purnell is known for her roles as Lucy MacLean in Fallout and Jackie Taylor in the first season of Yellowjackets. She currently stars in Sweetpea, and has also appeared in films like Kick-Ass 2 (2013), Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016), and Army of the Dead (2021), among others.
Starring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, alongside Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, the film Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released on July 9, 2027.
