Mandy Moore Shares Why She Turns to Her Mother-in-Law for a Venting

Mandy Moore certainly has a mother-in-law to remember.

AnnaSophia Robb says she relies on her husband Taylor Goldsmith’s mother, Kathy Goldsmith, for support when things get hectic with her three young children: Gus, 5, Ozzie, 3, and Lou, who is 20 months old.

Mandy shared with TopMob News’ Erin Lim Rhodes that she has a close relationship with her mother-in-law. She explained that her mother-in-law is a big help with the children and a key source of support, making her the first person Mandy turns to when she needs to talk things through.

The actress from A Walk to Remember has leaned on Kathy for support during difficult times, particularly after she and Taylor lost their home in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires of January 2025.

Mandy shared on Instagram in July that it’s been a very difficult year, but her mother-in-law, Kathy, has been incredibly supportive. Mandy admitted she doesn’t know how her family would have coped after the fire without Kathy’s help, especially considering Kathy was also dealing with a significant loss of her own. She’s been there for them from the start, offering unwavering support.

Despite everything, we feel incredibly lucky to have her as part of our lives, and we’ll always cherish her. We consider ourselves so fortunate she’s with us and we plan to keep it that way.

Mandy credits her friend Kathy with supporting her as a new mother, but she also realized the chaotic side of parenthood inspired her new film, The Breadwinner, featuring Nate Bargatze.

The new movie, releasing on May 29th, features Mandy’s character, Katie, achieving great success after appearing on Shark Tank. This leaves her husband, Nate (who is also named Nate in the film), to take care of their children.

Mandy shared with TopMob how much she’s enjoying being a mom to three children and how excited she is to be involved in Nate’s first movie. She sees the project as a way to recognize the often-overlooked contributions of mothers within families.

She explained that this is also flipping the traditional narrative, giving fathers the chance to embrace their growing responsibilities and truly understand the amount of work and difficulty mothers face.

Beyond being happy about becoming a parent, Mandy is also really pleased that the film is heartwarming.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this new release, and honestly, it really does seem like something everyone can enjoy. It’s got that wonderful, nostalgic feeling of the family films we all loved as kids – a real comfort watch!

You can see The Breadwinner in cinemas from May 29th. In the meantime, check out some adorable family photos of Mandy and Taylor.

Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith have two sons: August, born in February 2021, and Oscar, born in October 2022.

For Father’s Day 2023, Mandy sent a sweet message to her husband, saying how happy she was to be raising their child with him. She told him that she, their child, and he were incredibly lucky to have each other, and finished with a loving ‘Happy Father’s Day!’ and ‘I love you very much!’

Mandy wrote a heartfelt message on Instagram about Taylor, saying he was already writing songs about coaching Little League even before they got married, hinting he’d be a great dad. But she was still amazed by how naturally gifted and wonderful he was once they actually became parents.

I’m constantly amazed by everything you do – your kindness, your patience, and how you always jump in to help, whether it’s changing diapers, comforting a crying baby, or keeping up with our energetic toddler, all without me even needing to ask. You’re also a miracle worker when it comes to getting Gus to eat and always know how to make Ozzie laugh. And your taste in music for the boys is incredible! I could list so many more things.

Mandy shared on Instagram in February 2023 that they celebrated Goosey’s birthday early with loved ones. She wrote that two years with Gus Goldsmith, whom she describes as sweet and funny, have passed quickly. Mandy feels very fortunate to have him in their life.

In April 2020, Mandy revealed on Instagram that after spending more than six weeks in quarantine with someone, they were still happily getting along.

“Me and my love,” Mandy shared on Instagram when teasing another duet performance.

Whether performing music together or cuddling on the couch, these two make one cute couple.

The Dawes musician and the actress/singer collaborated on a song for This Is Us.

In November 2018, composer Chris Goldsmith shared a photo on Instagram with Mandy Moore and Sidd Khosla from the day they recorded “Invisible Ink” for an episode of This Is Us. He expressed how honored he was that Sidd asked him to co-write the song and then to record it with Moore, whom he called his “favorite human.” He encouraged fans to listen to the song on Spotify or Apple Music.

In May 2018, a charming couple attended the Communities in Schools Celebration in Los Angeles.

In September 2018, Moore shared a photo on Instagram of herself and someone else looking exhausted after being woken up by the hotel fire alarm in the middle of the night. She also mentioned how happy they were to finally be together after being apart for nearly a month, and added that seeing the band @dawestheband perform was always a great experience – especially for those in Portland who were planning to see their show that night.

The two attend the 2017 Emmy Awards.

Moore shared a throwback post to Instagram about a special Emmy Sunday when someone traveled across the country that same morning just to spend the day with her.

Mandy posted this picture to celebrate her and T’s second anniversary in July 2017, writing, “These have been the best two years. I’m always smiling when I’m with you, T.”

In January 2016, Moore shared on Instagram how proud they were of a band member and the entire group after a fantastic performance in their hometown.

The actress from This Is Us confidently wears heels, even if it makes her taller than her partner – a relationship move many admire! It’s a sweet example of a couple supporting each other’s individuality.

The couple enjoyed a mini-vacay in San Francisco to see an iconic landmark.

Like Ed Sheeran’s song says, someone special can stay with you always, close at heart – whether it’s tucked away like a keepsake in your jeans, or cherished like a bookmark in a beloved book, as Taylor Swift describes.
