MAPPA’s Darkest Fantasy Returns With a New Release Ahead of Season 2

Fans are excited about the return of Dorohedoro, a fantastic dark fantasy anime, with its new season released in Spring 2026. Created by MAPPA, the show is based on Q Hayashida’s popular manga series, which ran for nearly two decades. The first season premiered in 2020, a couple of years after the manga finished, and was initially available on Netflix before moving to Crunchyroll. After a six-year wait, Season 2 delivered eleven episodes and has already been renewed for a third season. To celebrate, Toho Animation released a brand new animated music video for the season’s ending theme, “Return to Head.”

The theme song is performed by (K)NoW_NAME, a Japanese music group known for creating popular anime themes. They’ve previously worked on hits like Sakura Quest and Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions, and also provided music for the widely loved anime Spy x Family. The video showcases the complete song with beautiful animation from the studio. While the anime recently finished, and the third season didn’t reveal much new information, fans can look forward to a significant update later this month.

While not as widely known as hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, their series Dorohedoro is a high-quality dark fantasy show. What Is Dorohedoro About?

I’m completely hooked on this story set in a gritty urban fantasy world! It centers around this really dangerous place called the Hole – it’s a total dog-eat-dog world where only the strong survive. But it’s even weirder than that, because it’s also where sorcerers come to test out their powers, and sadly, they often experiment on the people near the local hospital. It’s a dark and fascinating setting!

I’ve been watching Caiman, a man tragically transformed into a reptile-human hybrid, and his life is rough. He’s haunted by terrible nightmares and desperately wants to become human again. To that end, he tracks down magic users, using his magical immunity and a pair of bayonets as his weapons. He’s not alone, though – he has a female companion named Nikaido. Together, they’re delving into the hidden, dangerous world of the Hole, and slowly piecing together the mystery of what happened to Caiman and how he became what he is.
