Marathon Director Looking Into Subroutine Drops and Solo Play Feedback for Cryo Archive

Although the new Cryo Archive zone in Marathon hasn’t significantly increased the number of Steam players, fans are enjoying it. Players find the fast-paced experience of navigating the UESC ship, figuring out how things work, and competing against others to be very engaging, even though it’s challenging.

Bungie is actively responding to player feedback about the final area of the game. Director Joe Ziegler confirmed the team is talking about ways to improve things, including making the activity available more often (it’s currently only open on weekends), adding a solo play option, and ensuring players reliably earn the necessary item, Subroutines, to fight the boss.

These issues won’t be fixed overnight. “Finding solutions will take time, and I can’t promise anything quick,” Ziegler explained, “but our team will discuss them this week.”

He ended by thanking players for their patience as the game continues to develop and for battling the robots, aliens, and… well, things that resemble cyborgs! The “robots” are clearly the UESC forces you frequently defeat, and those familiar with the game’s backstory will understand the reference to “aliens.” Currently, there aren’t actually any cyborgs in the game.

We might be getting a glimpse of things to come, especially as Bungie continues to build out the story and what’s next with the Marathon universe. Only time will tell! Season 2, called NIGHTFALL, starts in June and will feature a new location – Dire Marsh. Players can also look forward to new weapons, Contracts, mods, cores, a Runner Shell, and The Cradle, offering even more ways to customize their experience.
