Marathon Showcases its Vantage Shell With a New Cinematic Trailer

Bungie just dropped a stunning cinematic trailer revealing a new Vandal armor set for Marathon. Like other trailers for the game, it doesn’t show much actual gameplay. Instead, it focuses on the overall feel and how the armor’s powers will fit into the world of Marathon. You can watch it below.

The trailer opens with Vandal positioned on a tall wall, observing enemy forces arriving in drop ships. He immediately provokes them before launching into a dynamic fight, skillfully dodging bullets. Reaching a more advantageous position, Vandal eliminates one enemy and uses a grenade to take out the rest of the squad. The trailer ends with Vandal using his speed and jump boost ability to confront the squad’s leader.

The current season of Marathon, called NIGHTFALL, is underway. Bungie has announced two new game modes will be added this season. The first, released at the start of the season, blends cooperative and competitive gameplay. The second will be a purely cooperative experience and is coming later this season.

When night falls in Dire Marsh, a new version of the activity appears called Night Marsh. According to Bungie, this nighttime variant is designed to be slower and more suspenseful – similar to a survival horror game. It features fewer players and adds challenges like navigating in the dark and dealing with new dangers.

Although Bungie continues to update and support Marathon, it hasn’t attracted as many players as either the studio or its parent company, Sony, had hoped. Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Lin Tao, mentioned in May that a key goal for the company is to boost player numbers and improve overall performance.

We plan to make Marathon even better by keeping our most dedicated players engaged with new content and a smoother gameplay experience, while also attracting new users.

This culminated in the Marathon Open Play Week earlier this month, giving players a full week to try out the game’s PvPvE extraction shooter format. The event also featured a special Sponsored Survival PvE mode.

So, Open Play Week had a bit of a hiccup! A lot of PS5 fans, myself included, were super excited to see the Marathon Digital Deluxe Edition listed for just $14. Turns out it was an error – Sony had to quickly update the PlayStation Store to explain that price only gets you the Deluxe Edition, not the actual base game. You need the full game to even use the extra content, which was a little disappointing to find out.
