Marshawn Kneeland’s Apparent Cause of Death Revealed

More details about NFL player Marshawn Kneeland‘s death have been released.

Following the news of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams’ death, Texas police reported that Kneeland died by suicide after leading officers on a car chase.

On November 5, 2025, around 10:39 p.m., Frisco Police helped the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) find a car that had been fleeing from troopers. The car had entered Frisco during the chase. After losing sight of the vehicle, troopers found it a few minutes later, crashed on Dallas Parkway near Warren Parkway.

According to initial reports, 24-year-old Marshawn Kneeland of Plano, Texas, ran away from the scene. Officers quickly set up a search area, using K-9 units and drones from the police department to find him.

Police say that during the search, they learned Kneeland had previously talked about suicide. His body was found at 1:31 a.m. local time.

The Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine how and why the death occurred. No other information will be shared right now because the investigation is still active. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Kneeland family and their friends.

Following news of the athlete’s death, the Cowboys shared a tribute to the player.

The team released a statement saying Marshawn was a much-loved teammate and colleague. They shared their support and prayers with his girlfriend, Catalina, and his family during this time.

The football star’s agent, Jonathan Perzley, also expressed his deep sadness about the loss of his close friend.

Seriously, watching Marshawn’s journey has been incredible. From that hopeful kid at Western Michigan just dreaming of the pros, to becoming a genuinely respected player for the Cowboys
it was amazing to witness. He left everything on that field – every single snap, every practice, every moment. And now
losing someone with that much talent, that much spirit, and just pure goodness
it honestly hurts so much, I can barely even describe it.

I still can’t believe Marshawn is gone. It feels like everyone is hurting right now. I’ve been looking at pictures of him, remembering all his amazing plays and just
everything. It’s helping me cope, seeing his whole life and career laid out like that. I just wanted to share some of those photos, so everyone can remember how incredible he was.

Marshawn Kneeland‘s football career started long before his time at the NFL.

While in high school in Michigan, Marshawn had a standout senior year, excelling on both sides of the ball. He made 110 tackles and 8 sacks while playing defense, and also contributed significantly on offense with 20 catches for 330 yards and 5 touchdowns.

After finishing school, Marshawn went to Western Michigan University and played football for four years, finishing with an impressive 149 tackles and 12.5 sacks.

The athlete was known for his dedication while at school, consistently putting in extra time at the team’s facilities to practice and study games.

According to his coach, David Denham, that’s when he began to clearly pull ahead of the competition.

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Marshawn in the second round of 2024, and team owner Jerry Jones famously told him, “We’re going to put a star on that helmet.”

The young athlete was determined to enjoy every second of the experience. “This is something I’ll never forget,” he explained about draft night, “and I’m just thrilled to be a part of it.”

Marshawn carried his strong work ethic with him when he started his NFL career and prepared for his first season.

As for how he was approaching the NFL, Marshawn just wanted to stick to his game plan.

After being drafted, he explained he plans to play the same way he always has: with a lot of energy, speed, and physicality. He believes success will depend on consistently making good plays.

During his time with the Texas team, the 24-year-old player participated in 18 games, starting four of them. He finished with a total of 26 tackles and one sack.

Just days before his death, Marshawn scored his first touchdown in the league.

According to his agent, Jonathan Perzley, Marshawn Beast Mode Lynch gave everything he had to football, dedicating himself fully to practices and games. Perzley expressed immense grief, saying it’s incredibly difficult to describe the pain of losing someone with such talent, a positive attitude, and a kind heart.
