Marvel Just Recreated One of the MCU’s Most Iconic Moments (& It Went Terribly)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its epic, crowd-pleasing moments. These scenes often build anticipation with dramatic music and a pause, letting the audience react as the heroes strike a powerful pose. The most famous example is in *Avengers: Endgame*, when Captain America stands alone against Thanos’ army. Just when things look hopeless, Falcon radios in, announcing the arrival of Earth’s heroes. With each new portal opening, the excitement builds until Captain America delivers the unforgettable line, “Avengers… Assemble.”

While *Endgame* aims to remain the most popular Marvel movie, *Avengers: Infinity War* is a strong contender. *Infinity War* was groundbreaking for bringing all the Marvel heroes together for the first time, and that’s a difficult achievement to surpass. The recent attempt to recreate a key moment from *Infinity War* proves this point – the second attempt didn’t have quite the same impact.

Thor Gets a Second Chance to Fight Thanos

The beginning of *Infinity War* is incredibly intense. Thanos attacks the Asgardian ship as it escapes, brutally killing half of its people right before the king’s eyes. Though Thor tries to defend his people, he’s weakened from his previous fight with Hela and quickly loses to Thanos. Helpless and chained, Thor is forced to watch as his friends, Heimdall and Loki, are killed. Fueled by anger and a desire for revenge, Thor travels to Nidavellir to create the powerful Stormbreaker axe. Armed with his new weapon, Thor uses the Bifrost to arrive in Wakanda with Rocket and Groot, dramatically changing the course of the battle.

Thor was distracted when he confronted Thanos and couldn’t prevent him from wiping out half of all life. This loss deeply affects him, and his alternate self in *Marvel Zombies* is determined not to repeat that failure. When Thor arrives in Wakanda in the animated series, it’s just like his arrival in *Infinity War* – full of rage. However, the circumstances he faces are drastically different from what his main universe counterpart experienced.

Marvel Zombies‘ Thor Has It Even Worse Than the Original

Okay, so in *Marvel Zombies*, it’s pretty clear Thor is totally in the dark about the zombie virus happening on Earth. Things go south *fast* when Thanos, now an undead master of the Infinity Stones, unleashes a devastating attack. It’s brutal – Rocket and Groot are instantly killed, and then Thor goes down too. Honestly, it’s a shocking moment. There’s a small victory, though: Black Panther manages to take down Thanos, preventing an even bigger disaster. But Thor… well, he doesn’t handle the loss well at all. He basically becomes a broken man in New Asgard, and even Valkyrie can’t count on him for anything. It’s a really tough watch, seeing him like that.

Thor eventually finds a chance to redeem himself and intentionally provokes a battle with Scarlet Witch, who is attempting to create an army of the undead to fight the Infinity Hulk. He manages to hold her off just long enough for his friends to escape into space and alert the Nova Corps, but ultimately he’s defeated and forced to join her side. Sadly, Thor doesn’t last long as one of her followers, and is killed in a fight with Bruce Banner’s Hulk persona. This is a fate the main timeline’s Thor will never face, particularly now that he’s a father. He has too much to live for, meaning he won’t wallow in self-pity or allow a zombie invasion to happen.
