Marvel has revealed that Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, will become the new Sorcerer Supreme in their comics. To celebrate, she’ll also be starring in a brand new series.
Marvel Comics announced that Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, is taking on a new role: Sorcerer Supreme! This December, a new comic series, Sorcerer Supreme, written by Steve Orlando and illustrated by Bernard Chang, will follow Wanda as she becomes Earth’s main defender against mystical threats. The series will feature main covers by Leirix, and Russell Dauterman, a popular Scarlet Witch artist, will design Wanda’s new costume and create variant covers for the first five issues, each highlighting a member of her magical advisory team, including Clea and Chthon.
The latest news about the comic reveals more about the story: Wanda will encounter people she knows as she begins her journey as the new Sorcerer Supreme. According to Marvel, the Vishanti—powerful magical beings—don’t accept Wanda’s claim to the title and choose their own champion. After a fight with her old teacher, Wanda finds herself in the strange dimension of Limbo, where she must defeat the ruler, Madelyne Pryor, to escape. While Wanda and the Vishanti are occupied, dangerous mystical threats are emerging. Committed to her new role, Wanda is determined to use her expanded powers to protect the world in a way no other Sorcerer Supreme has before!
The team behind the new Scarlet Witch comic shared details about the story. Writer Orland explained they’re excited for fans to see Wanda embrace her new role and challenge the established magical order, all with the goal of helping everyone. He also expressed his excitement about collaborating with artists Bernard Chang and Ruth Redmond, praising their ability to bring a new level of visual style and power to the character.
The first issue of SORCERER SUPREME, written by Steve Orlando and illustrated by Bernard Chang, is available for pre-order now at your local comic book store or on Marvel’s website. It will be released on December 31, 2025, followed by issue #2 on January 28, 2026, and issue #3 on February 25, 2026.
