Okay, so episode two of Daredevil: Born Again was really interesting! We finally got a clear idea of what Kingpin’s ultimate goal is, and honestly, I think it also showed us his biggest vulnerability. He hates letting anyone see him sweat, but there were moments, especially when he was with the one person he seems to genuinely care about, that cracks started to show. It was like we finally saw a glimpse of the man beneath the power. The episode itself was split between Kingpin’s task force just rounding up anyone and everyone, and Daredevil and Karen figuring out their next steps. It felt like things are really starting to heat up!
A peaceful moment found Wilson Fisk and Vanessa in bed, but Vanessa was shaken by a nightmare – she knew Bullseye was after her and understood the reason. She suggested they leave New York City, but Fisk questioned why they would abandon everything they’d built. She pressed him on what he truly wanted, and he revealed his ambition to expand his control and conquer new territories. He then mused about leaving a lasting legacy, admitting with a hint of regret that he had no one to pass it on to.
Kingpin’s Failure is Undeniable in Daredevil: Born Again
Honestly, this whole thing with Vanessa being in danger? That’s new – it doesn’t happen in the comics at all! In the original stories, Fisk did have a son, Richard, who was a villain called The Rose. But even then, Vanessa was actually gone, and Fisk ended up with Typhoid Mary. Surprisingly, he actually walked away from running everything, leaving the other crime bosses to scramble for control while he just…left with her. It’s a big change from the comics, but it’s making things so much more intense for him now.
The portrayal of Wilson Fisk in the current Disney+ series differs from this scene. Here, Fisk is firmly established as the powerful, controlling mayor of New York City, relishing his authority and demanding obedience from everyone around him. However, his downfall feels inevitable, and not simply because he’s a villain in a superhero story. Fisk’s arrogance and the presence of betrayers within his own organization create a precarious situation. While he has a fiercely loyal follower in Daniel, who will carry out any order, that devotion will likely lead to a sad fate for him, given his unwavering loyalty to the Kingpin.
Eventually, Wilson Fisk will come to the realization that his criminal empire isn’t enough. Because he doesn’t have an heir, he’ll understand that everything he’s built will likely fall apart when he’s gone – and that’s something he desperately doesn’t want. If the Marvel Cinematic Universe follows the comics, someone like Luke Cage will rise to power, winning the mayoral election and effectively dismantling Fisk’s organization. This outcome is inevitable, and even the arrogant Kingpin understands that his legacy is at risk.
