Marvel has announced its new Wolverine, and fans are already speculating he could be even more skilled than the original character.

Okay, so Marvel just dropped the cover art and details for Wolverine #23, and it’s wild! It looks like someone new is taking over as Wolverine, and get this – it’s Taskmaster! Seriously, Anthony Masters is wielding those claws now, and he looks way too good at it, if you ask me. I can’t wait to see what happens!

Marvel’s upcoming Wolverine #23 promises a tough fight! Logan is already weakened with broken claws and fading powers, and now his enemies are using those same abilities against him. To make things worse, Taskmaster is specifically targeting Wolverine when he’s at his most vulnerable.

Anthony Masters, first appearing in Avengers #195 in 1980, was created by David Michelinie and George Perez as Marvel’s top mercenary. He possesses photographic reflexes and can naturally copy any physical skill he sees, quickly making him an incredibly gifted athlete.

Taskmaster’s History In Marvel Comics, Explained

As an adult, Masters became a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and volunteered for an experiment involving a Super-Soldier Serum originally developed by the Nazis. The serum boosted his abilities, but tragically erased his memories – he forgot everything about his wife, his career, and his life as an agent.

Anthony Masters eventually became the Taskmaster, with crucial support from his wife, Mercedes, who secretly worked to boost his reputation as a mercenary and relay his gathered intelligence to S.H.I.E.L.D. This effectively turned him into a double agent, though this arrangement didn’t last. Ultimately, Anthony fully embraced his life as the Taskmaster, operating independently.

As the Taskmaster trains to become Wolverine, Logan and the X-Men are facing their biggest challenge yet. A new series is launching that will escalate the heroes’ fight against the evil 3K, as they desperately try to stop 3K from releasing the dangerous X-Virus across the globe.

Wolverine #23 from Marvel Comics goes on sale on July 8.
