Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again finds Matt Murdock and Karen Page working in secret to oppose Mayor Fisk’s control over New York City. The show quickly establishes that the people of New York aren’t passively accepting Fisk’s rule, and a strong resistance movement is starting to form. We’ve already seen hints of a dangerous partnership with Bullseye and know Jessica Jones will appear, and even after just three of the eight episodes, it’s clear Marvel is building something significant within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. New photos and the trailer suggest they have plans extending far beyond this season.
A new trailer for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again revealed that Jessica Jones has a daughter. Krysten Ritter’s character says someone came to her home while her daughter was there, though the child wasn’t shown and her name or father remains a mystery. Interestingly, in the Marvel comics, Jessica Jones has a daughter named Danielle Cage with Luke Cage. Adding to the excitement, photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again confirm that Mike Colter and Finn Jones will be returning as Luke Cage and Iron Fist, suggesting a full reunion of the Defenders team. Given Colter’s return and the comic book storyline, many fans believe the daughter will eventually become Captain America.
Who Is Danielle Cage in Marvel Comics?

Danielle Cage, the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones in Marvel Comics, has a history tied to important Avengers storylines. She was born in the comic series The Pulse, which followed the popular Alias series. Luke proposed to Jessica shortly after Danielle’s birth, and they married in New Avengers Annual #1 in 2006. Danielle is named after Luke’s close friend, Danny Rand, known as Iron Fist. With the significant time jump in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the Defenders Saga and Daredevil: Born Again, the MCU has a chance to closely follow the comics’ depiction of Jessica’s daughter. Now that Jessica Jones is confirmed to return for Season 3, the MCU can accurately portray this character and potentially give her a major role in future storylines.
Throughout most of the main comic book stories (set in Earth-616), Danielle remained a child and appeared as a supporting character in titles like New Avengers and Mighty Avengers. She played a part in the Secret Invasion storyline, where she was briefly kidnapped by a Skrull disguised as Edwin Jarvis, but was quickly rescued. However, Danielle truly comes into her own in an alternate future (Earth-15061, year 20XX). In this timeline, she inherits both her parents’ superpowers – her father’s incredibly durable skin and her mother’s immense strength – and becomes Captain America, using a shield that she controls with her mind and features the classic star-and-stripes design.

Danielle was one of the heroes brought to the future to stop All-Father Ultron from ruling with an iron fist. During an adventure detailed in U.S. Avengers #2-3, she briefly traveled to the present-day Marvel Universe. This was important because it allowed her to meet current heroes and reveal that she’d encountered many different versions of herself throughout the multiverse – all of whom had become Captain America.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe heads towards Avengers: Secret Wars, there’s a chance to introduce Danielle Cage as Captain America. Even without the multiverse storyline, bringing Jessica Jones’ daughter into the Daredevil: Born Again series could establish her as a key hero in the main MCU timeline. While Sam Wilson currently holds the Captain America title after Steve Rogers retired, the franchise needs a new generation of heroes to lead after the current saga ends. Danielle Cage, who has a connection to many established heroes like Iron Fist and Misty Knight through her future marriage, is a strong candidate to eventually take over the mantle from Sam Wilson.
You can now watch the second season of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, with new episodes released every Tuesday.
