Arc System Works announced that Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be released on August 6th for PlayStation 5 and PC. The game will feature several new characters, including members of the Unbreakable X-Men. Players will be able to fight as Storm, Wolverine, Magik, and even Danger, who appears as a formidable robot. You can find more details below.
If you’re familiar with Marvel Rivals, you’ll recognize many of Magik’s attacks, as she uses the Soulsword to inflict a lot of damage. Wolverine is the team’s core fighter, relying on his incredibly durable Adamantium Claws, and Danger uses projectiles and traps, staying true to her history of training the X-Men.
ArcSys shared the first information about Episode Mode, which they developed with Marvel Games and is based on existing characters and locations. The story focuses on the X-Men confronting a new enemy, and it appears to be story-focused with no traditional gameplay elements.
This isn’t a traditional game; it’s more like a moving comic book featuring art from several well-known artists. It does utilize the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller features. The story isn’t very long, but given Arc System Works’ past games – like Guilty Gear Strive, which barely had any battles in its story mode – this length is pretty typical for them.
The upcoming game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will launch with a roster of 20 playable characters, as revealed in a recent Steam listing. While ArcSys likely has more characters to announce later, players will initially be able to fight as favorites like Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Ms. Marvel, alongside others like Ghost Rider and Star-Lord. The game will also feature large online lobbies, capable of holding up to 64 players, though further details about these lobbies are still forthcoming.
