As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’ve always been captivated by the formidable villains that grace our screens in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, two antagonists from the Marvel Comics have left an indelible impression on me as the most potent, terrifying, and exhilarating adversaries yet. After the finale of Ironheart, these two formidable foes, Agatha Harkness (as we came to know her in WandaVision) and Mephisto from Ironheart, have been masterfully depicted together in a chilling dance in a stunning piece of fan art.
On Instagram, @70.6ix posted a fan creation that portrays Aubrey Plaza’s Death and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto dancing together, mimicking comic artist Alex Ross’ famous Joker and Harley Quinn image from DC Comics. In 2024, Death was introduced as Agatha Harkness’ (Kathryn Hahn) former lover and major antagonist in Agatha All Along, while Mephisto, long anticipated, made an appearance in 2025 to manipulate both Parker Robbins’ Hood (Anthony Ramos) and Riri Williams’ Ironheart (Dominique Thorne). It would be exciting to witness these villains teaming up in the future of the MCU.
Aubrey Plaza and Sacha Baron Cohen haven’t officially been announced as reprising their roles as villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but they could have promising futures with Marvel Studios. In the Marvel Comics, Death is associated with Thanos, Deadpool, and Loki, opening up possibilities for her character to resurface. There are rumors that Mephisto might be the star of a Special Presentation, maybe airing after the upcoming special feature on Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. With high anticipation surrounding his introduction, we’re hoping to see Mephisto in the MCU again soon.
In the final episode of Ironheart, titled “The Past Is the Past,” Riri Williams finds herself aligned with Mephisto, setting up a potential second season for the series. Although an official announcement for Ironheart season 2 hasn’t been made yet, it seems like Mephisto could reappear in this context. Furthermore, there are rumors that Mephisto might encounter Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
As for Death, the future remains uncertain. However, there is excitement about Agatha Harkness possibly returning in the 2026 Vision Quest series or other projects focusing on Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), which might also resurrect Death.
Combining Mephisto and Death in the MCU would create an exceptionally awe-inspiring alliance. They are both extraordinarily powerful magic practitioners, tapping into energies that are largely beyond human understanding, making them virtually unstoppable when teamed up. This formidable duo could pose serious challenges for numerous MCU heroes. While it’s uncertain which upcoming Marvel project might introduce these villains – possibly the Russo brothers’ anticipated crossovers, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” – we eagerly anticipate witnessing this intriguing collaboration on the big screen.
