Information about Marvel’s Blade game has been scarce since its announcement in 2023, but recently, some intriguing details have surfaced online. It appears that the budget for this upcoming Xbox game has been revealed through a French government report (as shared by Timur222 on Twitter). This report offers tax credit information for several development studios based in France, such as Arkane Studios, Ubisoft, and Quantic Dream. According to the report, Marvel’s Blade is said to have a budget of over 94 million euros, which equates to approximately $109 million in U.S. dollars.
Regrettably, the report fails to provide any extra details about the game or the progress of the project. Yet, it sheds light on the development costs contrasted with previous Arkane games, and gives a glimpse into how the French government handles tax credits for video game production and escalating expenses linked to AAA game development.
It’s anticipated that all the investments made are going to lead to an outstanding game. For several decades, Blade was not widely recognized within Marvel comics, but the film trilogy with Wesley Snipes significantly boosted the character’s popularity. Over time, Blade has been featured in various video games, however, this is his debut as the main character since tie-in games connected to those movies. Lately, Blade has been a part of group games such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. The character will also be featured in Marvel Rivals as a playable character later this season.
Microsoft’s Xbox has chosen to halt production on several games and shut down various studios recently, leading to speculation about the fate of some projects. While there have been worries that Marvel’s Blade might suffer a similar destiny, it is still being developed at present. Fans are anxious given the cancellations of games like Perfect Dark and Everwild, but Marvel’s Blade appears to be progressing well. A specific launch date hasn’t been revealed yet, but whispers suggest that the game aims for a release in November 2027, with production having commenced in 2024. This timeline could potentially mean that Marvel’s Blade might debut within this window or even later.
Before the launch of Xbox’s multi-platform strategy, it was announced that Marvel’s Blade would be released. At this point, the exact platforms haven’t been disclosed yet. Given its high production budget and association with a Marvel franchise, it appears Microsoft could be planning to release it on systems like PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. However, since the game seems to be in development for some time, we may not hear about potential multi-platform releases for a while. Let’s hope for an update soon as Marvel’s Blade has the potential to be one of Xbox’s most intriguing upcoming titles.
