Marvel’s Cyclops Push Is Best For The X-Men (and This Wolverine Fan Is Here for It)

Things are definitely strange for the X-Men right now, but honestly, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Looking back, some kind of shift always felt inevitable. The Krakoa era was massive, and while a lot of us weren’t thrilled with how it ended, we all had a lot of respect for what it tried to do. I think no matter what Marvel did after Krakoa – unless they brought Jonathan Hickman back – people were going to find something to criticize. A lot of fans are saying this new “From the Ashes” direction isn’t working for the X-Men, and while there are plenty of reasons why people feel that way, I want to focus on what the X-Men books are getting right.

I’ve always loved the X-Men, and honestly, Wolverine just stole the show for a long time. He really exploded in popularity back in the late ’70s and early ’80s in Uncanny X-Men and became huge across the Marvel Universe. I’ve noticed a lot of X-Men fans get frustrated with that, feeling like he overshadowed other heroes they liked. Cyclops especially seemed to suffer – he was always portrayed as the serious, somewhat boring leader. But things are finally changing, and Cyclops is getting the recognition he deserves! As much as I adore Wolverine, I have to say, it’s about time Cyclops had his moment.

Cyclops Is Becoming the Star He Should Have Been

Wolverine is incredibly popular, largely because he’s a compelling character. People are drawn to his tough exterior combined with his underlying goodness. His long and secretive past provides endless story possibilities, which is why there are so many Wolverine comics and tales. It’s easy to see why he’s a star – he has everything needed to capture an audience. His frequent conflicts with Cyclops often overshadowed the X-Men’s leader and created dramatic tension.

Cyclops has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. He’s evolved from a rigid, uncompromising figure into a determined leader willing to make difficult choices to ensure his people’s survival. This added depth made Scott Summers a more compelling character, and he was increasingly presented as the central figure of the X-Men – a strategy that was proving successful. Many fans, including myself, who previously disliked Cyclops completely changed their minds. He’s become a truly strong character, and he now embodies a similar heroic role to Captain America, which is a fitting and effective way to portray him.

Everyone anticipates the X-Men joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the current, somewhat bland portrayal of the team is likely intentional. Marvel seems to be setting things up for a strong introduction when they finally appear. While Wolverine is popular, he’s often featured in stories separate from the core X-Men narrative. Cyclops, however, is the ideal character to represent the team’s essence. His entire life revolves around the X-Men and their goals, and focusing on him will help new viewers understand what the team is all about – even though MCU exposure doesn’t significantly boost comic book sales.

As a huge fan, I’m really seeing Cyclops become a major force in the Marvel Universe. For a long time, Wolverine-related characters got all the attention, but Cyclops is quickly changing that – he’s boosting the popularity of others! Take Psylocke and Magik, for example. While Marvel Rivals definitely helped, their connection to Cyclops in the comics has been huge for them. And speaking of Rivals, everyone is clamoring for him to be added, and I truly believe he’ll become incredibly popular once he is. It’s fantastic that Marvel is putting so much focus on Cyclops right now, because Rivals actually gets people interested in the comics themselves. He’s the team leader, and honestly, the leader should be the star!

It’s Past Time for Cyclops to Be the X-Men’s Star

Over the past two decades, Cyclops has dramatically evolved. He’s become a much more complex character, and it’s really paid off. I used to find Cyclops incredibly dull, but it’s been amazing to watch him develop into a skilled soldier, grapple with the harsh realities faced by mutants, and ultimately become a better leader than Captain America – and many fans agree! We’re now seeing Cyclops take center stage, and it’s well-deserved.

Cyclops has experienced periods of strength and weakness throughout his history, and for a long time, Wolverine overshadowed him, making him seem less impressive. However, in recent decades, Cyclops has been reimagined as a strong, decisive leader – filling the role Wolverine once held. This new portrayal is proving to be a turning point for the character, and it promises to benefit the entire X-Men team more than anyone else. He’s truly become a standout hero, and it’s exciting to think about his future.
