Marvel’s Wolverine Includes Sabretooth as An Ally Who Competes For Kills, Says Insomniac

Insomniac Games recently released a longer look at gameplay for Marvel’s Wolverine, and it’s surprisingly violent. The gameplay also included some exciting moments, like the appearance of Jean Grey helping Logan, and a final reveal of the villain Sabretooth.

I was totally expecting the latest character to be another bad guy we’d have to fight! But it’s awesome – they’re actually teaming up with the player! It’s not quite like the relationship with Jean Grey, though. According to the game director, Mike Daly, Logan and Sabretooth have this really competitive thing going on. Jean might let you get a kill, but Sabretooth will swoop in and steal the glory right from under you! It makes their fights way more entertaining, with all the playful trash talk during combat. It’s just a really fun dynamic to watch unfold.

Throughout the game, Wolverine won’t be fighting alone – he’ll team up with various allies, and Mystique is a likely candidate to appear. The connection between Wolverine and Jean Grey will continue to develop, and they’ll work together again later on. Jean’s telepathy will even help Wolverine during stealth sections, giving him an advantage by making it harder for enemies to detect him, according to Daly.

Considering Wolverine and Sabretooth’s long-standing rivalry, it’s almost inevitable they’ll fight again. Their clashes are legendary, at the very least.

Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on September 15th for PlayStation 5. You can pre-order the game now: the Standard Edition costs $69.99, and the Deluxe Edition is $79.99. The Deluxe Edition, similar to Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, includes five special suits and claw designs, plus a head start with three Technique Points.

If you pre-order either version of the game, you’ll immediately get the Classic Brown Suit and Reflective Claws, plus an extra Technique Point. We’ll share more about the gameplay and Wolverine’s story—including his fight against Trask and the Reavers—in the months ahead.
