TL;DR
- Hold onto your hats, folks! Pi Network just dropped the first-ever hackathon since launching Open Network back in February. Yup, you heard that right!
- The whole point? Make Pi tokens more useful and let participants snag some sweet rewards. Think of it like making your phone more useful, but with more Pi and fewer apps that do absolutely nothing.
Pi Network Hackathon
Breaking news from the Pi team this week! Pi Hackathon 2025 is live, and it’s time to form your dream team (don’t worry, it’s not as intense as the Avengers). Registration is open, and you can sign up now, because who doesn’t love a deadline?
The hackathon kicks off on August 21, with a check-in on September 19 (just to make sure you’re still alive and coding), and everything wraps up by October 15. It’s like a coding reality show, but with less drama… or more, depending on how you handle your teammates.
The hackathon is taking all the good vibes from Pi2Day 2025 (which you can read all about in our totally-not-boring article). This time, Pi’s Core Team is pushing to make the Pi ecosystem more useful by asking developers to create apps that the everyday user actually wants to use. Weird, right?
Whether it’s payments, services, or just some cool Pi-powered community stuff, the goal is simple: make Pi tokens work harder than your last five failed app ideas.
All apps have to follow Mainnet Listing Guidelines and actually add value to the community. So, get your creative juices flowing, and hey, if you can throw in some AI magic, all the better! You’ve got Pi’s tools at your disposal, including the Pi App Studio, Brainstorm App, and the Developer Portal. Build it, upload it, and let the judges decide if it’s genius or… not.
Now, the real kicker: there’s a prize pool with 160,000 Pi tokens up for grabs. Here’s the breakdown:
- 1st Place – 75,000 Pi (basically a Pi jackpot)
- 2nd Place – 45,000 Pi (still a ton of Pi)
- 3rd Place – 15,000 Pi (no biggie, right?)
- Honorable Mentions (up to 5 teams) – 5,000 Pi each (hey, every Pi counts)
How to Participate
If you’re dying to get in on this action, all you need to do is register with the official Hackathon Registration Form and sign up for the email list (because who doesn’t love a good inbox surprise?). Team size? Totally up to you, but make sure all your team members pass Pi KYC (you know, the infamous procedure that’s kind of a rite of passage at this point).
Once your app is ready to go, upload it to the Pi Developer Portal, with a demo video and the necessary forms. Judges will evaluate your masterpiece based on how useful the Pi token is, how easy it is to use, and whether your app can survive the brutal Pi community’s standards. No pressure.
“Pi Hackathon 2025 is your chance to make Pi useful in the real world! Whether you’re a coding pro or a newbie, it’s time to build something cool, team up with like-minded people, and show the Pi world what you’re made of!”
