Later this year, Mattel will become the official maker of DC Comics action figures, taking over from McFarlane Toys. We’ve seen a little bit of what Mattel has planned, but now we’re getting a much better look at the first figures – including Batman, Superman, and the Joker. Plus, if the rumored price is accurate, these figures will be very affordable.
DC’s new action figures will come in two versions. The first to be released is the ‘DC Core’ line, designed with kids in mind. These figures will have bright colors and simple, engaging features, making them fun for all ages. While they won’t have as much posing ability as the ‘Collectors’ line, they’re expected to cost only $12.95 each – a great value, according to sources. This low price is a smart way to attract fans to the new toy line, especially when most similar figures cost around $19.99.
The DC Core Collection Already Includes Mech Batman, Superman, The Joker, and More

The standard DC Core Collection figures will be 6.5 inches tall and each will come with accessories and special effect pieces. Recent previews have shown The Flash, Batman, Robin, and The Joker. Starting with The Flash, it’s clear Mattel is focusing on the characters’ iconic designs. He features the traditional red and yellow suit, and several effect pieces are included for both play and display.

Batman’s suit is a brighter blue and grey, with an updated bat symbol and a bigger utility belt. Both he and Robin carry a variety of gadgets and tools. Robin’s costume blends different classic looks, but mainly features a full red and green suit with a yellow cape and utility belt.
The Joker figure boasts some of the most impressive accessories in this release. He’s dressed in his signature purple suit, yellow vest, and green shirt, and his face sculpt blends a classic look with a modern feel. He also includes a blaster with firing missiles, and even more accessories are included. But the coolest part is the set of interchangeable faceplates that transform Joker into twisted versions of other DC heroes like The Flash, Batman, and Robin.

The new DC action figure line will include more than just typical heroes and villains, and we’re getting a first look at a couple of the most dynamic figures. First up is the DC Core Heat Vision Superman, sporting a costume inspired by the New 52 era. This Superman figure features glowing red eyes and a heat vision effect, plus Kryptonite chains and shackles. As an added feature, you can pose Superman breaking free by raising his arms and snapping the chains apart.

The DC Core Mech Suit Batman figure depicts Batman piloting a powerful, black, grey, and yellow mech suit. The suit maintains Batman’s signature color scheme with mostly black and grey, highlighted by gold accents. The Bat symbol has a brighter yellow color and includes added details for visual impact. The figure also features armored gauntlets with a built-in action feature, and the helmet is removable.
This Batman figure includes two gold discs that attach to his gauntlets. He has an action feature that lets him swing his fist and shoot a disc from one of his gauntlets. It’s not quite clear how the feature is activated – it might be by twisting his body, or pressing a button – but both discs can be launched.
The DC Core series is coming out later this year, and the Collectors series will be available in early 2027.
