The audio drama Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord features a talented voice cast, including an actor from The Mandalorian. Maul has become a key character in Star Wars animated series since The Clone Wars showed he survived, and both that show and Star Wars Rebels developed him into a complex and unexpectedly sympathetic figure. Now, Shadow Lord puts him center stage, with the first two episodes focusing on his efforts to regain control of the criminal underworld and get revenge on his enemies.
This introduces a variety of new Star Wars characters, like Jedi apprentice Devon Izara and police detective Brander Lawson. Lawson is especially compelling – he chooses to handle a dangerous situation involving Maul without involving the Empire. He’s aided by his partner, 2B0T, nicknamed Two-Boots, who literally wears two boots! I was immediately intrigued when Two-Boots spoke, recognizing the voice of Richard Ayoade.
Richard Ayoade Voicing Two-Boots Is A Great Choice For Maul – Shadow Lord

Casting Ayoade as Two-Boots was a brilliant choice. He naturally excels at playing droids, thanks to his consistently dry and deadpan delivery. This unique style is instantly recognizable and creates a fantastic contrast with Lawson’s character in Shadow Lord. The series is quite intense, and Ayoade provides a welcome dose of humor.
This actor has worked with Star Wars before, providing the voice for the droid Q9-0 (also known as Zero) in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Mandalorian – a role similar to his latest one. This casting continues the Star Wars tradition of using droids for comedic effect, and it also brings a star from the popular British sitcom The I.T. Crowd into the franchise, as he famously played the character Moss in the series.
First, Matt Berry brilliantly voiced a character in The Book of Boba Fett, and now Ayoade is returning to the Star Wars universe. Interestingly, Peter Serafinowicz, who starred in The I.T. Crowd with Ayoade, originally provided the voice for Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, creating another connection between these talented actors and the franchise.
Who Else Is In Maul: Shadow Lord’s Cast

The cast of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is strong, featuring not only Ayoade, but also a well-known figure from the Star Wars universe and another exciting new addition. Here’s who’s involved:
Sam Witwer returns as Maul, a character he’s previously voiced in several Star Wars projects including The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Solo. He’s a fan favorite within the franchise, and has also lent his voice to Emperor Palpatine and The Son in animated series. Witwer has also appeared on screen in small roles in films like The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, and the series Andor.
I’m really excited about Gideon Adlon playing Devon Izara! From what I understand, her character is a Twi’lek Padawan who somehow made it through Order 66, but now Darth Maul sees potential in her and wants to train her as his new apprentice. It’s cool that she’s already been involved with Star Wars, voicing Pak Relda in Young Jedi Adventures. She’s also been in The Society and Terminator Zero, so she’s definitely got some experience!
Brander Lawson, the police detective, is voiced by Wagner Moura, a highly acclaimed actor. He was recently nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Secret Agent and is also well-known for portraying Pablo Escobar in the series Narcos.
As a big Star Wars fan, I was thrilled to hear Vanessa Marshall is back as Rook Kast! She originally voiced the character in The Clone Wars as one of Maul’s Mandalorian allies, and she absolutely nails the role. Plus, she’s someone I really enjoy – she also voiced Hera Syndulla in Rebels and The Bad Batch, making her a favorite among fans like me.
Dennis Haysbert voices Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, Devon’s aging Jedi Master who, like her, managed to survive the devastating Order 66. Haysbert is a veteran actor with a nearly 50-year career, known for playing President David Palmer on 24 and God in Lucifer.
Chris Diamantopoulos voices Looti Vario, the crime boss. Diamantopoulos is a seasoned voice actor, known for roles in shows like Silicon Valley and Invincible, and he even voiced Mickey Mouse on TV from 2013 to 2019.
Rylee Lawson, Detective Lawson’s son, is voiced by Charlie Bushnell, who also stars as Luke Castellan in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
David W. Collins provides the voice for Spybot, Darth Maul’s droid. He’s a veteran of Star Wars animation, with experience in sound and voice acting on many of the TV series.
A.J. LoCascio returns as the voice of Marrok, the Inquisitor first seen in Ahsoka. LoCascio has previously contributed voice work to Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld and several LEGO Star Wars projects.
Steve Blum provides the voice for Icarus, a Zabrak and member of Maul’s criminal organization. Blum is also known for voicing Zeb in Star Wars Rebels, and he’s reprised that role in live-action appearances in both The Mandalorian and the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu.
You can now watch Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Episodes 1 and 2 on Disney+. New episodes become available every Monday at 3:01 am Eastern Time.
