Mckenna Grace is well-known for appearing in big movie franchises, including Ghostbusters and The Hunger Games. But joining the cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 wasn’t just another role for her – it was a dream come true, as she’s been a huge fan for ten years. She also hopes to become a director one day.
In the follow-up to the popular horror movie, actress Grace plays Lisa, a paranormal investigator who is trying to solve the mysteries of a Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Grace, who used to write detailed notes about the story and even pitch movie ideas to her agents years ago, said being on the set felt incredibly strange and exciting – like a dream come true for a longtime fan.
I’m so excited that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is coming to homes on December 23rd! I recently had the chance to chat with Mckenna Grace about how much she loves the series, and it was fantastic. I can’t wait for everyone to see it and hear what she had to say!

ComicBook: Were you a fan of the franchise before you got involved with the film?
Absolutely. It’s been an amazing year, and I feel incredibly lucky to have been involved in franchises that I’ve loved as a fan for years—really, throughout my whole career.
I always feel a bit strange during job interviews. I tend to say things like, ‘This would be my dream job,’ or ‘This is exactly what I want to do,’ but I’ve said that about a lot of positions. Growing up, I was homeschooled and didn’t have much else to do besides work and really dive deep into my interests. I spent a lot of time becoming a huge fan of different things, and above everything else, Five Nights at Freddy’s was my biggest obsession.
For over 14 years, ever since I first discovered Five Nights at Freddy’s, I’ve been determined to be a part of that franchise. It became a real goal of mine – I knew I had to be in the movies if they were ever made. I even followed the book series closely, constantly asking my agents if they were considering a film adaptation and specifically hoping to play the female lead. I’ve been trying to get involved with this series for so long, so it’s incredibly surreal to now be doing interviews about it and having fans recognize me as ‘the girl from Five Nights at Freddy’s.’
I was absolutely obsessed! I used to spend hours building out detailed backstories in journals and even recreating music videos with a friend. After being away filming for six months this year, the very first thing I did when I got home was drive around listening to The Living Tombstone – they make amazing songs based on Five Nights at Freddy’s, and I needed to catch up!
ComicBook: I can’t even imagine what, as an actor, it must feel like to be taking on a role and stepping onto a set— a set of something that you, in your head, have envisioned for all these years. Did you just have a moment, or multiple moments, where you just stood there and kind of fangirled at what was happening?
Mckenna Grace explains that the set designers accidentally placed her chair right inside the pizzeria set. This meant she was always surrounded by the pizza parlor environment, even when she was trying to relax or rehearse her lines between takes.
I barely had a chance to sit in the chair, maybe once on my last day. The set was incredible – the designers packed so much detail, history, and hidden surprises into every corner. As both an actor and a fan, I was amazed. I spent most of my time exploring every room and visiting the Creature Shop daily. Instead of joining everyone for lunch sometimes, I’d be in the workshop checking out all the animatronics. Every day, I’d thank our director, Emma, for giving me the opportunity to be part of it – I was genuinely thrilled to be there.
ComicBook: And I mean, and not to mention the fact that you said this is the Jim Henson Company. It doesn’t get much bigger than that when it comes to puppeteering.
I think it’s amazing! I even have a Rolf puppet from The Muppets, so I’ve always loved puppets. Growing up, The Muppets and Labyrinth were my favorites. I’ve always been a big fan of practical effects, strange creatures, and puppets, and Jim Henson’s workshop is the best at that. Honestly, even if you’re not familiar with the game or the series, you can still appreciate how talented they are and how realistic the animatronics look. You don’t even need to know who Freddy Fazbear is to be impressed by the craftsmanship.
You can watch Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on digital platforms starting December 23. The 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray versions of the movie will be released on February 17, 2026.
