Meghan Markle Makes Rare Comment About Her and Prince Harry’s Kids

Meghan Markle is pulling back the curtain on her and Prince Harry‘s parenting.

At the Project Healthy Minds’ 2025 World Mental Health Day Gala on October 9th, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, discussed how she and Prince Harry plan to approach social media with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, while accepting an award recognizing their humanitarian work.

Meghan shared with the audience that her children, Archie and Lili, are only six and four years old. She added with a smile that they’re thankfully still too young to be on social media.

The influencer, who frequently posts pictures and videos of her children, Archie and Lilibet, while concealing their faces, went on to say that she and her husband know the day will come when their children are more visible online. Like many parents, they’re constantly thinking about how to let their kids enjoy the benefits of technology while also protecting them from its risks. She added that trying to keep their children separate from the online world is becoming increasingly difficult.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, well-known for their work promoting mental health, received recognition for their Archewell Foundation. The foundation created a support system for parents dealing with the effects of social media on their families.

Speaking at the gala tonight, the prince emphasized a critical issue facing us today: keeping children safe and supporting families online. He stressed that success depends on everyone’s involvement.

Meghan, having personally experienced bullying and spoken about it publicly, emphasized that parents can create positive change when they work together.

We’ve witnessed this issue and it’s getting worse. With your help, we can keep creating a safer online environment for kids. My husband and I are so grateful for your presence here tonight, and we thank you all for your support as we continue this important work.

He explained to Sky News in 2015 that having a family would happen naturally, and you can’t rush it. When asked if his niece, Princess Charlotte’s birth, made him consider starting a family, he said he definitely wanted children, but there were steps you had to take.

Meghan purchased a Cartier French Tank watch years ago as a future gift for her daughter. She remembered splurging on the two-tone watch when the TV show *Suits* was renewed for a third season—a big moment for her at the time. She had it engraved with ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and intends to pass it down to her daughter someday, as she told *Hello!* magazine in 2015.

Prince Harry has often been asked about becoming a father, a topic frequently linked to his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana. He’s confessed to having mixed feelings over the years. In a 2016 interview with *People* magazine, shortly before he met Meghan Markle, he admitted that while he sometimes felt ready to start a family, especially while traveling, other times he wasn’t so sure and wasn’t in any rush. He even said there were moments when the idea of having children put him off.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement in 2017, they did an interview together. During the conversation, they were asked about having children. Harry said they hoped to start a family soon, and Meghan smiled in agreement.

Meghan described becoming a mother after Archie was born as ‘magic.’ She added that she felt incredibly lucky to have her husband and son, calling them ‘the two best guys in the world.’

After Archie was born in May 2019, Harry shared how incredibly happy he was, saying it was the most amazing experience of his life. He expressed deep admiration for mothers and thanked everyone for their love and support, saying they were both overjoyed and wanted to share the news with the world.

As a parent, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the impact we all have on young people, and I shared some of those thoughts at a recent event. What really struck me is how powerful the quiet role models are – the people who might not even *know* they’re inspiring someone. It’s amazing to think that simply by being a good person – kinder, more driven, more successful – you can make a real difference in a young person’s life. Becoming a dad really brought this home for me. Knowing my son is always watching me, learning from my actions, and maybe even wanting to follow my path… it’s a huge responsibility, and a beautiful one. It makes you really think about the example you’re setting.

Honestly, hearing Harry talk about Archie being their absolute number one just melted my heart! But then he went on to say that work is right up there after that, and they’re seriously trying to do everything they can to, like, actually make a difference in the world. It’s just so inspiring to see them balancing everything and genuinely wanting to help! I’m completely obsessed with how dedicated they are.

Despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Harry and Meghan found a positive side: more quality time with their son, Archie. Meghan explained in October 2020 that without the pandemic, they would have been traveling and working more, and would have missed out on precious moments watching Archie grow. They were grateful for the extended family time.

Harry shared that he and Meghan were present for all of Archie’s major milestones – learning to walk, running for the first time, and even his first tumbles.

In May 2021, Meghan appeared on TV for a special event called VAX Live, hosted by Global Citizen. She spoke about being pregnant and how happy she and her husband were to soon have a daughter. She shared, “We’re so excited to welcome our daughter – a joy we share with families everywhere.” She also expressed hope that her daughter, and girls around the world, would be empowered to lead and make a difference.

She explained that the future success of our leaders – and all of us – relies on the choices we make today and the steps we take to build a fair and caring future.

Meghan briefly appears in an episode of the Apple TV+ series created by her husband and Oprah, called *The Me You Can’t See*. While on screen, she seemed to honor her growing family by wearing a shirt with the message, “Raising the Future.”

The couple recently announced the birth of their daughter. In a message on their Archewell Foundation website, they shared their joy, saying they welcomed their daughter, Lili, on June 4th. They expressed immense gratitude for the outpouring of love and well wishes they’ve received from around the world and thanked everyone for their kindness and support as they enjoy this special time with their family.

Meghan Markle’s first children’s book, *The Bench*, will be released on June 8, 2021. The book celebrates the bond between fathers and children, told from a mother’s point of view. Meghan explained that it began as a poem she wrote for her husband on Father’s Day shortly after their son, Archie, was born, and eventually grew into the story it is today.

In a letter written in October 2021 to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer, Meghan explained why she supported requiring paid parental leave in the United States. She described feeling both incredibly happy and a little stressed when her daughter was born, especially because the COVID-19 pandemic was still disrupting normal life at hospitals and schools.

Unlike many new parents, we didn’t face the difficult decision of returning to work shortly after our baby was born. We were fortunate enough to be able to stay home with her during those crucial first months, fully focusing on our children and family. This meant we avoided the tough choices so many parents have to make daily regarding childcare, work, and healthcare.

Meghan explained that no family should ever have to make the difficult choice between working to support themselves and being able to care for a child or a family member—something a comprehensive paid leave program would help solve.

In April 2022, Harry admitted it was nearly impossible to balance parenting with working from home.

He mentioned that Archie interrupts their Zoom calls more than anyone else, but added that Archie is also frequently *on* those calls, which is good.

Harry realized he was already seeing his own playful sense of humor in his son. “I make an effort to maintain that,” he explained. “I believe a bit of playful boldness is what keeps you feeling young and engaged with life.”

Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.

Okay, seriously, she said the most adorable thing! She was speaking at this event – it was all about mental wellness for parents, part of a bigger thing for World Mental Health Day – and she was just glowing talking about her kids. She said being a mom is absolutely everything to her, but then, with the sweetest look at Harry, she added that being *his* wife is right up there with it! It was so cute, I almost died. Honestly, they’re just the best.

She continued, saying she felt lucky that her children were still young, so this issue wasn’t something they were facing right now. However, she also expressed worry about how things were changing and that it would inevitably become a concern for their family.

As a parent, Meghan observed how quickly time passes – days can feel long, but the years fly by. She also pointed out that everyone is impacted by the internet and social media, and that ultimately, we all simply want to feel secure.

During a visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria, in May 2024, Meghan told a class of kindergarteners about her daughter, Lili. She explained that Lili is very small and will soon be three years old. Meghan shared a sweet moment when Lili looked at her and realized she could see her own reflection, saying, ‘Mama, I see me in you!’

Meghan explained that the other person was being very direct. However, Meghan took those words to heart in a personal way, realizing, ‘I recognize myself in you, and you recognize yourself in me.’
