Despite a quiet initial release, Memory of a Killer has become a popular streaming series worldwide. Data from FlixPatrol shows it’s currently among the most-watched shows in many countries, ranking as the fifth most popular title on HBO Max internationally. It even reached the top 3 in countries like Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.
As a big fan of crime dramas, I’ve been following Memory of a Killer, and it’s interesting to see how its popularity differs depending on where you are. Here in the States, it hit number four on Hulu, but has since dropped to fourteen. But over in the UK, it’s still a huge hit on Prime Video, consistently staying in the Top 10 – it even reached number five! It’s cool to see Patrick Dempsey doing so well, and it’s a bit of a contrast seeing the different streaming numbers.
Memory of a Killer Remakes a Belgian Film
Patrick Dempsey is famous for playing Dr. Derek Shepherd, nicknamed “McDreamy,” on Grey’s Anatomy and for his role in the popular Disney movie Enchanted. However, with Memory of a Killer, Dempsey takes on a different kind of project, stepping into the world of thrillers after being known for romantic and family-friendly films.
Memory of a Killer is based on a Belgian movie and book, both called The Alzheimer Case. This isn’t the first time this story has been adapted for American audiences; a previous remake also used the original Belgian source material. The film centers around a hired assassin who is developing Alzheimer’s disease.
The TV series Memory of a Killer offers a more detailed exploration of the story and its characters. It centers around a professional hitman who struggles to balance his violent career with his family life, a balance that’s threatened when someone tries to harm his daughter.
I’m really intrigued by this new series. It centers around Angelo, a guy who’s already dealing with a tough family situation – his brother is in a memory care facility with Alzheimer’s. Then, Angelo himself starts exhibiting similar symptoms, and things quickly spiral out of control. It’s a fascinating mix of genres – a crime thriller paired with a really emotional family drama. The way it weaves Angelo’s dangerous life with his personal struggles is compelling, and a new episode drops every week, so you’re always left wanting more.
Memory of a Killer Received Mixed Reviews
Although the show had a strong starting point and featured a talented cast including Michael Imperioli, Richard Harmon, Odeya Rush, and Gina Torres, it received a mixed reception from critics. It currently has a 6.9 rating on IMDb, with viewers generally appreciating the lead actor’s departure from his typical roles, but finding the storyline predictable.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave Memory of a Killer a 50% rating, but audiences seem to enjoy it more, giving it a 68% score. The series isn’t finished yet – there are still a few episodes left. Currently, six out of ten episodes have aired, with the latest one released today, March 2nd, according to IMDb.
Despite being new, Memory of a Killer has the potential to become a standout crime thriller. The idea of a hitman losing his memory is fresh and compelling, and with so many popular detective shows and thrillers available, this series could easily become a hit this year.
You can stream Memory of a Killer on Hulu in the U.S., and on HBO Max or Prime Video in certain other countries.
