Peacock subscribers will soon be able to stream a beloved horror comedy featuring Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn. The film is coming to the streaming service next month.
Starting March 1st, you’ll be able to watch Death Becomes Her on Peacock. This funny and spooky movie features Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as two actresses who have been competing for years. They both try a magical potion that promises to keep them young forever, but it comes with some horrifying consequences.
Following the success of films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Robert Zemeckis directed Death Becomes Her. The screenplay was written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan, and filming took place in Los Angeles from December 1991 to April 1992. Universal Pictures released the movie in theaters on July 31, 1992.
Death Becomes Her Was Initially Panned by Critics
When Death Becomes Her first came out, critics didn’t like it very much – Rotten Tomatoes gave it an approval rating of just 58%. But over time, the movie has become a beloved cult classic, mostly because of its over-the-top acting and funny take on aging in Hollywood.
Even though critics didn’t love it, Death Becomes Her actually won an Academy Award. It took home the prize for Best Visual Effects at the 65th Academy Awards, surpassing Alien 3 and Batman Returns. Today, the film is recognized as groundbreaking for its use of computer-generated effects.
The film Death Becomes Her did well in theaters, earning $149 million globally on a $55 million budget and opening at number one in its first weekend.
Drew Barrymore Wants to Remake Death Becomes Her
Because Death Becomes Her remains a beloved and well-known film – and was even turned into a Broadway show – it’s still a frequent topic of conversation. This explains why Drew Barrymore playfully mentioned and Jennifer Aniston in September 2025.
Drew Barrymore has focused on hosting her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, filmed in New York, which has kept her from acting much lately. But she’s open to returning to movies, especially if it meant collaborating with Adam Sandler again.
Drew Barrymore revealed that she’s eager to collaborate with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and they’re both aware of her interest. She’s been brainstorming project ideas with them, playfully suggesting a movie based on Three’s Company. More seriously, she proposed remaking Death Becomes Her, expressing strong enthusiasm for that idea.
Drew Barrymore has starred with Adam Sandler in several romantic comedies, including The Wedding Singer (1998), 50 First Dates (2004), and Blended (2014). She also appeared with Jennifer Aniston in the 2009 film He’s Just Not That Into You. Sandler and Aniston have a history of working together too, having co-starred in the comedies Just Go with It (2011) and the Murder Mystery films.
Despite being major stars, Drew Barrymore, Meryl Streep, and Goldie Hawn have never appeared in a film together. A remake of Death Becomes Her with these three would be a significant project simply because of their combined star power. However, Universal Pictures hasn’t announced any plans to move forward with the idea since Barrymore mentioned it last year. For now, fans can still enjoy the original Death Becomes Her by streaming it.
