Konami recently updated its website with sales information for its games. While exact numbers aren’t available for everything, the company announced that the Metal Gear series has now sold 65.1 million copies worldwide – a 1.8 million increase since the end of June.
The Silent Hill series has also experienced a boost in sales, reaching 13 million copies sold since its initial release in March 1999. This represents a 1.3 million increase since the end of June. The success of both Metal Gear and Silent Hill is likely due to recent releases, including the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
The biggest increase in update numbers comes from the digital card game Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, which has now reached 80 million cumulative sales and downloads – a 10 million increase since March 2025.
Besides Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel and the eFootball series, which has reached a combined 900 million in sales and downloads, Metal Gear is currently Konami’s most successful franchise. Konami also recently confirmed they are still dedicated to the Silent Hill series.
Series producer Motoi Okamoto explained that Konami deliberately announced three Silent Hill projects – a remake of Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall – all at once to demonstrate their dedication to reviving the popular game series.
“Three years ago, in 2022, we announced three titles: Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall,” wrote Okamoto on social media. “We didn’t want to just announce a single remake to ‘test the waters.’ We wanted people to feel how serious we were about reviving the series. Developing a remake and a new title simultaneously naturally involves risks, but we wanted to convey our commitment first and foremost.”
He explained that a series’ long-term potential only becomes clear when a new installment is revealed. Players need to believe a franchise has a future to stay interested, and if the company is hesitant, so will they be. To truly excite fans, the company needs to demonstrate its commitment. He believes this is a reasonable expectation.
Konami recently released Silent Hill f, a new installment in the popular horror series. Developed by NeoBards and with a story written by Ryukishi07, the game has been very well-received by both Silent Hill fans and horror enthusiasts alike.
Konami announced that the Silent Hill 2 remake has sold over 2.5 million copies globally, bringing the entire Silent Hill franchise to over 10 million units sold. Because of this success, it’s estimated that Silent Hill f has sold around 2 million copies since it launched earlier this month. You can read our full review of Silent Hill f for more information.
