Metal Gear Solid 2 Mod Uncovers Third-Person Mode That’s Apparently Been Hidden Since 2011

We were incredibly impressed with Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, giving it a fantastic review. We loved revisiting these classic games, and we’re excited to play them again soon!

A new mod for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty could significantly change how you experience the game. Modder Afevis Solmunko, known for their work on the popular MGSHDFix, recently announced a feature that’s a welcome addition to the already large collection of PC mods available for the title.

This discovery allows for a fully controllable, third-person camera, giving players much more freedom to explore levels in new ways. It’s a surprisingly helpful feature, especially since it was hidden within the game’s existing files and found by a player named Solmunko completely by chance.

It’s unusual for Hideo Kojima to keep something secret for so long, but this appears to be leftover code from Bluepoint Games’ Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. While Bluepoint didn’t ultimately implement a full third-person perspective in Metal Gear Solid 2, the code for it still existed within the game, and researcher Solmunko points out that all related files are marked as being from Bluepoint.

We’re starting a new game from the beginning. This will keep us busy while we wait for the next part of the collection to be released in August.
