Konami reports that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has surpassed 2 million copies sold since launching in August 2025. This news follows an earlier announcement that the game reached 1 million sales within its first week.
This game is a complete rebuild of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, first launched on PlayStation 2 in 2004. It boasts updated graphics and gameplay for today’s computers and consoles, but keeps the original story intact. Many of the actors from the original game have returned to reprise their roles as the characters you know and love.
Set in the 1960s, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater follows Naked Snake as he attempts to rescue a Soviet scientist who wants to defect. However, the mission takes a dangerous turn when Snake discovers he’s been betrayed by his trusted mentor, The Boss, and learns the Soviet Union is developing a powerful new weapon called the Shagohod.
Director Yuji Korekado and producer Noriaki Okamura discussed remaking Snake Eater as far back as December, feeling like the time to do it was either now or not at all.
Korekado explained that with such a long-running series, they have a diverse fanbase. They were very careful to honor the legacy of the original games during the remake process. The team wanted to update the game for modern players while staying true to the original creator’s vision. They made some changes because directly recreating the original could be challenging for today’s gamers.
Okamura then talked about what happened with the Metal Gear series after Hideo Kojima, the creator of the games, left in 2015.
It was tough deciding how to move forward with the series after the original team left. We kept going back and forth about creating something new. But considering our age and the fact that fewer and fewer developers understood the intricacies of Metal Gear, we felt we had to revive it soon, or it might become impossible. Ultimately, because it’s such a fantastic series, I decided the time was right.
Konami has revealed they’re releasing a new set of remastered Metal Gear games. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the new Switch 2 starting August 27th. This collection features both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
