Metal Gear Solid Film Greenlit By Sony, First Look in the Works

We have mixed feelings about Sony’s announcement that they’re making a Metal Gear Solid movie. While we’re excited, we’re also a little worried. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is officially happening, and Sony has brought in Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein—the directors of Final Destination: Bloodlines—to start developing the film based on Hideo Kojima’s famous game series.

We admit to being a little worried, considering Metal Gear Solid is a series many of us grew up with—and recently experienced a resurgence with the success of Delta: Snake Eater. However, the filmmakers seem very capable of delivering a film that truly captures the spirit of Naked Snake and his team. Sony’s Sanford Panitch, a key studio executive, has also expressed confidence in their abilities.

Zach and Adam are incredibly talented directors and producers who consistently deliver exciting and visually stunning stories. We’re thrilled to be working with them across all of our film divisions and are proud to welcome them to Sony.

Lipovsky and Stein are both very excited about adapting Kojima’s famous game series into a completely different format.

We’re excited to be working with the talented team at Sony. Metal Gear Solid was a truly innovative game that changed the industry forever. We can’t wait to share Hideo Kojima’s memorable characters and amazing world with players.

We don’t know any details about the plot or who the main character will be, but we’re hoping the new game Sony is working on will at least feature Big Boss.
