Although 4A Games hasn’t officially announced the next Metro game, a reveal might be coming soon. A rumor suggested an announcement date of April 16th, which industry insider NateTheHate confirmed. According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, the game is reportedly called Metro 2039. Considering Metro Exodus is set in 2035 and covers a year-long period, Metro 2039 would supposedly take place three years later.
There’s more news: Microsoft is reportedly planning another presentation on April 16th, and according to NateTheHate, that’s where they’ll likely reveal the new game. Tom Warren from The Verge believes it will be an ID@Xbox event, but Nate says he isn’t sure about the exact name of the presentation.
Regarding the rumored PlayStation State of Play event on April 16th, the source said they haven’t been able to verify the information. They also pointed out that they weren’t a confirmed insider, so it’s best not to read too much into it or get upset if it doesn’t happen.
If the rumors are true, it’s going to be an exciting week for fans of the Metro series. While details about the next game, often called Metro 4, are still under wraps, 4A Games previously hinted at a story that will be even more intense than previous installments. The studio is also developing a multiplayer game, but we haven’t received any updates on that project in over five years.

Microsoft’s event will be held on April 16th and that’s where they’re planning to reveal Metro 2039. I don’t know what the event is officially called. And just to answer a likely question: I haven’t been able to confirm anything about the previously mentioned State of Play date yet.
