It’s been a long wait for Metroid Prime fans! Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was originally announced eight years ago, and the last main installment, Metroid Prime 3, came out eighteen years ago.
After waiting so long, it’s understandable if fans started to give up on the game – perhaps thinking it would never be finished, wouldn’t be released, or just losing their enthusiasm.
As a huge Metroid fan, I can honestly say the hype for Metroid Prime 4 is at an all-time high – and after finally getting to try it out myself, I totally get why! It really lives up to the excitement.
Metroid Prime 4 starts with a brief introductory level that teaches you the core gameplay mechanics.
After easily defeating the final boss, a strange surge of energy sweeps over the planet, and Samus soon finds herself waking up in the jungle of a completely new world.
Viewros was once the home of the Lamorn, a highly advanced civilization that is now extinct.
Samus is uniquely chosen by the Lamorn, a dying race, to carry their history and knowledge to the rest of the universe.
She needs to find three keys to activate the teleporter, and that’s where our story really begins.
Metroid Prime 4 doesn’t reinvent the wheel for fans of the series, but it beautifully refines and improves upon what made previous games great.
The shooting mechanics are excellent. As someone used to playing shooters on a PC, I usually struggle with aiming on a controller, so I’m really happy the Switch 2 offers mouse support.
At first, your weaponry is very bare bones, limited to just your most basic blaster shots.

As you play, Samus will gradually regain her suit’s powers, like missiles and other weapons.
The jungles of Lamorn are beautiful and fun to explore. Throughout your journey, you’ll want to frequently use Samus’s visor to scan your surroundings.
This guide offers more than just fun facts about plants and animals; it also provides practical advice on how to defeat the dangerous creatures you’ll encounter.
Honestly, the game has a ton of puzzles, and while none of them really made me sweat, they were still super satisfying to figure out. It’s a nice little reward feeling when you crack one!
As a huge fan, watching the gameplay of Metroid Prime 4, I keep getting a strong Zelda vibe! The jungle environments, all the puzzle-solving, and especially the story about the Lamorn and their forgotten history… it really reminds me of a Zelda game, and honestly, I think that’s fantastic.
Central to Samus’s abilities in Metroid Prime 4 are the psychic powers afforded her by the Lamorn.
These powers let Samus use telekinesis to move doors, spheres, switches, and other objects, helping her solve more challenging puzzles by putting everything in the correct position.
These abilities aren’t just for exploration; they’re useful in battles too. Samus can now steer missiles in slow motion, which is especially helpful when facing the next boss.
I was really looking forward to trying out the new motorcycle they’ve been showing off, but unfortunately, it’s not available until later in the game.
I spent about 75 minutes playing Metroid Prime 4, which gave me a good initial impression of the game, but I definitely wished I had more time with it.
It wasn’t that I thought 75 minutes was too short to get a feel for Metroid Prime 4—actually, it was the other way around.
The best thing you can say after one of these preview events is, “I wish I could have played more.”
As I left the jungle and headed towards the next sight in Lamorn, that was all that occupied my thoughts.
After a long development period like that of Metroid Prime 4, a kind of legend builds up around the game, and people’s hopes for it become increasingly grand over time.
It’s hard to predict if Metroid Prime 4 will satisfy the high hopes some fans have for it.
From what I’ve seen, Metroid Prime 4 seems to be exactly the game fans have been hoping for – a true successor to Metroid Prime 3. I’m really hoping the full game lives up to the promise of this early look.
