Sydney Sweeney is collaborating with Amanda Seyfried on a movie adaptation of Freida McFadden’s popular novel, The Housemaid. But that’s not the only exciting project she’s involved in! A surprising new film is in the works, bringing together director Michael Bay, known for Transformers and Bad Boys, and actress Sydney Sweeney. After a long wait, there’s finally news about this movie.
ComicBook recently spoke with Brad Fuller, the producer of Anaconda, about the new comedy version. He also shared an update on the Outrun movie, a project previously announced with Michael Bay and Jason Sweeney. Fuller confirmed the movie is still in development and a perfect fit for Bay and Sweeney’s style.
We’re still in the beginning stages of development. Just before this call, I was telling Bay I needed to jump off the phone to focus on this project. It’s called Outrun and it’s inspired by a classic driving video game from Sega in the 80s. Bay has always been passionate about making a driving movie. I’m really excited about working with Sydney Sweeney; she’s been a great supporter of our company for years. Since she’s brought us two good projects, I wanted to return the favor, and Outrun feels like the perfect fit. Plus, Sydney actually works on cars herself – she’s a true car enthusiast! I’ve paired her with Michael at Universal, and they’re currently working on the script.
Why Did Bay and Sweeney Choose An Outrun Movie?

With so many video games to choose from for a movie adaptation, why did Michael Bay and Sweeney pick OutRun? For those unfamiliar, OutRun was created by Sega in 1986, and its design was actually influenced by the film The Cannonball Run. Designer You Suzuki aimed to make a game focused on the experience of driving, rather than strict racing, and that’s a key reason why OutRun became so popular.
In this game, you drive a Ferrari Testarossa through a bustling city, dodging traffic and overcoming obstacles to reach your destination. The game features multiple paths and choices, leading to different endings. Essentially, it’s a free-form experience where you create your own story with a fast red car, a lively city environment, and plenty of chaotic driving.
The game, originally created as a tribute to a beloved film, is now being adapted into a movie – and it’s easy to see why Michael Bay and Blake Sweeney are involved. According to the source, Bay has long wanted to direct a car-focused film, and this game offers the ideal foundation for that vision. Plus, Sweeney is a hands-on mechanic who enjoys working on cars herself. Their shared passion for the subject matter, combined with the game’s open-ended nature, makes them a potentially fantastic team for this project.
Anaconda releases in theatres on Christmas Day.
