If you’re happy with your PC Game Pass subscription – especially since it didn’t see as big a price increase as other tiers when Xbox changed things – you might want to appreciate it now. Microsoft may soon stop offering it as a separate plan.
According to sources at The Verge and Windows Central, Microsoft is considering changes to its Game Pass subscription service. These changes could include combining Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass into a single tier. Microsoft is also reportedly exploring the possibility of adding services from other companies, similar to how Game Pass Ultimate currently works.
This subscription level used to include Ubisoft+ Classics and EA Play, plus instant access to many new games. Now, it also features a Fortnite Crew membership. While perks for games from publishers like Riot Games are still available across all subscription plans, we might see even more additions in the future. However, since the highest tier also includes PC Game Pass (which primarily offers games published by Xbox, but with a delay of up to a year after release), the price of that tier could potentially go up.
Given the negative reaction to past price hikes, it’s uncertain whether Microsoft will proceed with this new increase. However, with a particularly strong lineup of its own game releases this year, Microsoft might want to maximize profits from Game Pass subscriptions to make up for potentially lower full-game purchases.
