People are talking a lot about how expensive PlayStation 5 games are becoming, and there’s speculation that the next Grand Theft Auto game might be the first to cost $100.
But Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 may get there first.
The flight simulator will be available on Sony’s PlayStation console starting December 3rd. There are four different versions to choose from: Standard (£69.99/$69.99), Deluxe (£99.99/$99.99), Premium Deluxe (£129.99/$129.99), and Aviator (£199.99/$199.99).
Yes, you read that correctly: $199.99!
The main difference between the various versions is how many aircraft you can use. The Standard version includes 70 aircraft, while the Aviator version offers up to 125.
Microsoft doesn’t clearly explain what’s included, but this image from Reddit offers a pretty good overview.
It’s common for games like this to rely a lot on downloadable content, and Train Sim World 6 is another example where players can easily spend a significant amount of money on expansions.
But $199.99 does seem extraordinarily expensive for the most premium edition of a game.
Despite this, pre-order numbers on Sony’s PlayStation Store suggest people are buying the game. As of today in the UK, the Premium Deluxe edition is currently the fifth best-selling pre-order, the Standard edition is seventh, and the Aviator edition is 21st.
It’s interesting to see that most gamers pre-order the most expensive versions of new games, especially given the current economy and how pricey software has become when it first releases.
