Microsoft has released a preview of the new full-screen gaming experience for Xbox on PCs. Previously, this feature was only available on smaller devices like the Xbox Ally X, but now PC gamers can try it out too.
Microsoft has created a full-screen Xbox experience for PCs that’s designed to be easy to use with a controller. It offers a simple, uncluttered interface perfect for gaming, and works seamlessly with your controller on desktops, laptops, and tablets, making it easy to switch between tasks and enjoy a smoother gaming experience.
You can open this feature through the Task View, or by pressing the Windows key + F11 after turning on the full-screen experience in your Windows Settings. It’s not enabled automatically, so make sure to turn it on first.
As a researcher testing this new feature, I’ve found you need to be signed up for both the Windows Insider Program and the Xbox Insider Program to give the preview a try. It’s included in the latest Windows 11 preview build – specifically build 26220.7271 – which is currently available to those in the Dev and Beta Channels. Keep in mind that Microsoft is rolling it out slowly, so it might take a little while before you see it on your end.
Microsoft is enhancing Windows 11 for gamers by bringing the full Xbox experience to gaming PCs. Following Valve’s announcement of the Steam Machine, it’s becoming clear that the future of Xbox relies on Windows, so delivering a seamless, console-like experience on Windows 11 is crucial.
Earlier this year, I tested the full-screen Xbox experience on the Xbox Ally and thought it was a significant improvement for using Windows with a gamepad. I hoped to see this feature on regular gaming PCs eventually, and now Microsoft is making it happen.
Xbox’s full screen mode is coming to all Windows 11 users early next year.
