Microsoft has unveiled Mico, a dynamic avatar for Copilot. When you interact with Copilot, Mico will come to life on screen, displaying emotions, changing its form, and moving around – all designed to make your conversations feel more natural and engaging.

There’s a secret assistant hidden inside Mico – a much more famous and powerful one. If you tap Mico repeatedly, it transforms into… CLIPPY.

The TestingCatalog team noticed that Microsoft’s Clippy is now a fully animated avatar on the platform, similar to Mico. While you can’t currently set Clippy as your main avatar, it’s available as a background option and can be activated. It looks like the classic assistant has made a comeback in the world of AI!

As an analyst looking back at the history of digital assistants, it’s fascinating to remember Clippy. Before we had Copilot or even Cortana, Microsoft introduced Clippy with Office 97. Its original purpose wasn’t to *do* things for you, but to actually *teach* you how to use Word. It was essentially a built-in tutorial, offering tips and guidance as you worked.

Clippy, Microsoft’s virtual assistant, was initially widely mocked and became a running joke in the tech industry, leading to its eventual removal. However, by 2025, it had surprisingly become a beloved pop culture icon, with people now fondly remembering it due to nostalgia.

Copilot now includes a nostalgic surprise: Mico! It’s essentially a modern version of the classic Clippy assistant, but with much more powerful features. It’s a fun throwback to Microsoft’s history that I really enjoy.

In addition to Mico, Microsoft revealed new features for Copilot, such as group chats for up to 32 people and the ability for Copilot to challenge incorrect information on specific subjects.
