The popular show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is coming back later this year with a big twist: it will be set ten years in the future. The new season will introduce a new villain with ties to a classic enemy, and a major character from the 30th anniversary special, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, will also be returning.
A fresh take on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is coming later this year in a new comic series from BOOM! Studios. A preview has given fans their first glimpse of the series’ new villain, Rita Rabiosa. Rabiosa’s look draws inspiration from the classic Rita, with familiar features like her headdress, large collar, and magical staff. However, she has some key differences – one arm is similar to the original, while the other appears damaged and partially robotic. Her headdress also features tentacles, with one side showing signs of having been cut off.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Brings Back A Once & Always Main Character

After a decade away, the Power Rangers are coming out of retirement to face a new danger. They’ll have to quickly regain their skills, but luckily, their Zords are still around and look just as they remember. During the battle, we learn Trini and Billy are defending against an attack by Rabiosa while discussing someone named Minh – a character fans who saw Once & Always will immediately recognize.

As a huge Power Rangers fan, I was pretty shocked to learn in the 30th Anniversary special that Trini actually died – it was Robo Rita who did it! A big part of the special focused on Zack and Billy stepping up to help raise Trini’s daughter, Minh. She knew all about her mom being the Yellow Ranger, and while they faced some challenges, it was awesome seeing Minh eventually become the new Yellow Ranger, carrying on her mother’s amazing legacy. It was a really emotional and satisfying moment!
This new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers story, set ten years later, will finally explore the relationship between Trini and Minh – something the 30th Anniversary special didn’t do. It will also mark the first time Minh appears as a character in the Power Rangers comics. Here’s the official description for more details.

Get ready for a fresh look and a new adventure! The Power Rangers are back, reimagined for a new generation. It’s been a decade since the original team hung up their Power Ranger suits, but they’re now reuniting at the iconic Command Center. A dangerous and updated version of their old enemy, Rita Rabiosa, has emerged, and our heroes must answer the call. They’ve grown up a lot since their teenage years, but will they still be able to morph into the heroes the world needs?
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 will hit comic stores on June 3, 2026.
