
As a huge horror fan, I truly believe Mike Flanagan is the modern master of horror filmmaking, much like Stephen King is to horror novels. It’s no surprise he’s adapted several of King’s books for the screen! He’s joined the ranks of directors like Frank Darabont and Rob Reiner, bringing King’s stories to life in films like Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck. And now, another one of his King adaptations is almost here, which is fantastic news – though we’re all still anxiously waiting for updates on his other projects, too!
Mike Flanagan announced on Instagram over the weekend that filming is finished on his new series, a remake of Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie. He hasn’t shared any recent news about his other King adaptation, The Dark Tower. This Carrie adaptation, described as a fresh and relevant take on the story, will be an eight-episode series on Prime Video starring Summer H. Howell as Carrie, a high school outcast who’s discovering she has telekinetic powers. Flanagan said the project was a career highlight, praising the cast and calling it one of his favorite things he’s ever worked on.
A release date for the Carrie TV series hasn’t been announced yet. The show will bring back several familiar faces from Mike Flanagan’s previous projects – including Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, and Danielle Klaudt.
Mike Flanagan Is Also Working on an Adaptation of The Dark Tower

Mike Flanagan is currently working on a TV series based on Stephen King’s epic The Dark Tower novels. The story follows Roland Deschain, a skilled gunslinger journeying through a desolate, post-apocalyptic world to find the mysterious Dark Tower.
The book series includes eight novels, a shorter story, and a book for children, and it shares familiar themes and ideas with other works by the author, making it a challenging project to adapt for television. Mike Flanagan first revealed his plans for the adaptation in 2022. Although he’s worked on other TV shows and films since then, he’s still dedicated to bringing this series to life. He recently told ComicBook in June that the adaptation is ‘always in development.’
He explained that the project wasn’t stalled, but incredibly large and complex – like constructing a massive oil tanker. They’ve been making progress consistently, but the sheer scale of the undertaking is what’s taking time.
Flanagan hasn’t given any news recently, but considering his successful track record with Stephen King adaptations, The Dark Tower is likely to be a great project. Fans will need to wait a bit longer to see it come to life on screen.
