Mila Kunis Reveals One Parenting Rule With Ashton Kutcher

Mila Kunis is making sure she’s not a bad mom. 

Mila Kunis, known for her role in Friends With Benefits, shared that she intentionally limits herself to one movie a year. This allows her to prioritize spending quality time with her two children, Wyatt, 11, and Dimitri, 9, and her husband, Ashton Kutcher.

Mila recently told Extra that she and her husband, Ash, make sure not to work when their children are at school or traveling. They prioritize being available for their kids during those times.

I’m usually a ‘one movie at a time’ kind of person, but I’m flexible! If a project can be filmed close to home, without a lot of travel, I’m definitely open to considering it. Being near family is a big priority for me, so that makes all the difference.

Mila explained that she’ll be filming in Los Angeles in January for her next project. After that, she has another project scheduled to shoot outdoors in a foreign country during the summer.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, who got married in 2015, always agree on one thing when it comes to raising their kids: they both remain actively involved. As Mila explained, they share parenting duties, but neither parent is ever completely checked out.

Mila knows she’s fortunate to be able to choose her projects carefully.

“It’s a luxury, and I’m really fortunate,” she said, “so I don’t take that for granted either.” 

Sharing similar parenting styles isn’t the only thing that’s made Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s marriage last for ten years. Mila has also shared that their mutual enjoyment of life has helped them stay connected and strengthen their relationship over time.

Mila shared with TopMob News last year that she and her partner still feel youthful, and she believes that’s what keeps their relationship exciting.

Plus, she noted that they “laugh at everything.”

Ashton has also shared how thankful he is for his family, once describing being a father and husband as his ideal role in life, as he told TopMob News.

The 47-year-old shared how happy he is with his life, emphasizing his love for his children and wife. He feels incredibly lucky and wouldn’t trade his life, even with all its challenges, because he embraces both the good and the bad. He genuinely loves his life, problems and all.

Ashton added, “I wouldn’t give it up for a minute.”

Mila Kunis understands that everyone makes mistakes, and she’s quick to admit when she’s wrong – particularly when it comes to apologizing to her children, Wyatt Isabelle and Dimitri Portwood, whom she shares with her husband, Ashton Kutcher.

She once told People magazine that the only thing she ever feels bad about is overreacting to things, even to the point of apologizing to her young daughter. She described a time when she’d calm down, then sit her daughter down and say, ‘I’m really sorry, Mommy overreacted. Do you forgive me?’ Her daughter would usually say yes, and she wants her to understand that everyone makes mistakes, even parents.

Kunis encourages all moms to realize that their best is more than enough for their kids.

She explained in a 2016 interview with A Plus that it’s often considered unacceptable to admit you’re not perfect. She believes simply knowing you’re trying your best is enough, and that’s what matters. She feels confident she’s the best mother her daughter, Wyatt, could ask for.

While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actress explained that she and Ashton Kutcher did the Cheetos Super Bowl 2021 commercial with Shaggy – a playful update of his song, “It Wasn’t Me” – because they really needed a break from taking care of their kids.

“It was in the peak of the pandemic, it made no sense logically,” Kunis explained. “I was dying to get out of the house.”

Kunis then joked, “I got two days off from my kids, I’m a horrible mom!”

Kunis’ biggest parenting fail? 

In a 2021 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Mila Kunis shared a story that she thought might get her in trouble. She explained that a young child at her daughter’s preschool had been unkind and pushed her daughter.

Mila Kunis immediately asked their daughter, Wyatt, if she had defended herself by pushing the other child, but Ashton Kutcher disagreed with this approach.

Kunis recounted telling her daughter, ‘If someone pushes you, push them back, and firmly say ‘No, thank you’ before walking away.’ She then added with a laugh that while pushing someone off a ladder, swing, or slide would be wrong, a gentle push back on the ground seemed like a reasonable response. She jokingly called not teaching this a ‘parenting fail.’

Mila Kunis shared on the Armchair Expert podcast that she didn’t bathe her children daily, and actually didn’t bathe her newborns at all. Ashton Kutcher chimed in, explaining their parenting philosophy: only wash kids when you can visibly see dirt.

Kunis and Kutcher have established open-door policy at home. Literally.

If anyone is surprised by Mila Kunis sharing that personal detail, she gets it. She says she never imagined she’d be comfortable enough to use the restroom with the door open.

Kunis just can’t hang like she used to and she’ll be the first to admit it. 

In a 2017 interview with TopMob News, Mila Kunis recounted a dinner with friends where she had a few drinks. She joked that after having three penicillins – which she playfully called a ‘delicious beverage’ – she was quite tipsy and ‘a very cheap date.’

But what about wild date nights with her husband?

She was so funny! She pointed out that our date nights can’t be too crazy because, let’s be real, 7 AM rolls around and it’s all ‘Mommy!’ and you’re instantly jolted awake. It’s a good reminder that even when you try to have a little fun, parenthood is always right there with you!

In a 2020 podcast interview, Kunis described her and Kutcher as playful and silly parents. She explained that they aren’t trying to be perfect, just comfortable being themselves and not afraid to look foolish around their kids. She believes this comes from self-acceptance and confidence.

This also means occasionally doing things you’d rather not, like dressing up in a costume to make your child happy – something Mila Kunis did one Halloween.

One of the challenges of parenting, she told Jimmy Kimmel in 2017, is that kids often get their way. You quickly learn to choose which things are worth fighting over. She explained that she tried to encourage her daughter to want to be a superhero like Batman or Superman, but her daughter insisted on being Cinderella, which the mom admitted she wasn’t thrilled about.

Wyatt asked Mila Kunis to dress up as Elsa from Frozen, but Kunis initially refused. She jokingly said she told her daughter, “No way, Mama isn’t Elsa!” However, she eventually gave in. “I ended up doing it,” she admitted. “I even wore a blonde wig!”

Although Mila Kunis wasn’t thrilled about dressing up as the Ice Queen for Halloween, she did learn a valuable lesson from playing Elsa: the importance of letting things go!

During a recent Reddit Q&A, Mila Kunis shared her feelings about becoming a mother, calling it a completely life-altering experience. She explained that everything shifted for her and expressed her pride in being a full-time mom. Surprisingly, she admitted she currently has no interest in returning to acting, finding motherhood to be the most demanding – and rewarding – job she’s ever had.

The actress from Friends With Benefits understands how difficult it is to find clothes that are comfortable both during and after being pregnant.

“Having a baby and breastfeeding,” Kunis told TopMob News, “nothing fits in these dresses anymore.”

Kunis isn’t here for any mommy shaming.

According to the former That ’70s Show star, the pressure to compete as a parent is really damaging. She explained to PopSugar that the time when children need their mothers is so short, you don’t want to waste it worrying about unimportant things.

Kunis told Vanity Fair in 2020 that she wasn’t concerned with what others thought. She feels it’s unfair that women face criticism for publicly showcasing their breasts, especially given how much society focuses on them. She understands people have different views on the topic, saying, “If you don’t want to see it, just don’t look.”

Putting pressure on herself to have it all? Hard pass.

In a 2016 interview with TopMob News at the premiere of Bad Moms, Mila Kunis stated plainly, “There’s no such thing as balance. It doesn’t exist.”

Kunis shared that she usually acts in just one film each year so she can prioritize spending time with her children.

As a mom, I completely get the juggle! My husband, Ash, and I have a rule: we don’t work when the kids are at school or if either of us is traveling. It’s just something we decided early on to make sure we’re both present for them when we can be.

They might occasionally bend the rules, but one commitment always holds true: we always show up for each other.
