Minions & Monsters Sees the Despicable Me Characters Casting Their Own Scary Movie
The trailer reveals the Minions have been secretly involved in Hollywood’s biggest moments, all the way from the early days of filmmaking to the recent ‘Minion Vision’ technology. Now, they’re embarking on a brand new adventure!
Okay, so there’s this really funny moment in the movie where one of the Minions gets told he’s a natural filmmaker – it’s adorable! It totally goes to his head, and he decides, along with his buddies, to try and summon Cthulhu! You can guess it doesn’t exactly go smoothly… it’s a chaotic mess, but in the best way!
“I’m Gary Orum Oliver Magma Ichabad the Deceiver,” the small creature the Minions brought forward announced. “But you can call me Goomi. I know exactly the monsters you need for your film!”
Armed with their cameras, the team begins searching for the mysterious monsters. They finally find a huge, orange, blob-like creature covered in hundreds of small, white eyes. “She’s going to wipe out the entire planet!” Goomi shouts to the Minions as the creature fires a blast towards the Hollywood sign.
The Minions quickly found themselves in over their heads during their monster movie adventure, and the film shifts from making a truly frightening movie to simply managing the monsters they’ve unleashed. Minions & Monsters arrives in theaters on July 1.
New Minions Spin-Off Is Third Installment in Despicable Me Prequel Series
The new movie, Minions & Monsters, coming out this summer, is the third film in the Minions prequel series and the seventh Despicable Me movie overall. The story is set around 40 years before the first Minions film, during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Pierre Coffin once again voices the Minions, and a new actor takes on the role of Goomi. The film also stars Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Allison Janney, Bobby Moynihan, Phil LaMarr, Christoph Waltz, and Jeff Bridges. With the Despicable Me franchise having already earned over $5 billion worldwide, it’s unclear if this new movie will be as successful as past films. Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) earned $940 million, and Despicable Me 4 (2024) performed even better, bringing in $972 million at the box office.
Minions & Monsters hits theaters on July 1, 2026.
