Mobile Suit Gundam: The Iron-Blooded Orphans Return For Major Anniversary With New Anime

Wow, the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is still going strong after all these years! What’s amazing is how it keeps reinventing itself with new universes, different timelines, and just so many stories. One of my favorites is definitely Iron-Blooded Orphans, that 2015 series about a group of orphans thrown into a crazy war with giant robots. Thankfully, they had a leader, Mikazuki Augus, who managed to get his hands on a Gundam! And to celebrate the tenth anniversary, the Mobile Suit Gundam series is giving us fans a ton of awesome stuff, including a brand new anime! I can’t wait!

This October 31st, Japan will be celebrating both Halloween and the return of Iron-Blooded Orphans to the big screen! A special showing will include a previously released special, along with a brand new short film. Specifically, theaters will be showing a special edition of Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt “Path of The Little Challenger”, accompanied by the new short film, “Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans 10th Anniversary Short Film ‘Wedge of Interposition’”. Although it’s not yet confirmed if this event will come to North American theaters, a new trailer for the tenth anniversary celebration has been released and can be viewed below.

I’m excited to share that a special edition of #ウルズハント and a new short film, #幕間の楔, celebrating the 10th anniversary of #鉄血のオルフェンズ, will be released in theaters on October 31st (Friday)!

The Iron-Blooded Orphans Return

In addition to the new anime hitting theaters and the recently revealed visual (shown above), a tenth anniversary event has been announced, starting in February of next year. The event will be held at the Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, Japan. Here’s how the official Gundam website describes it: “The final event for the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 10th Anniversary Project has been announced! We’re planning a stage show that lets you fully immerse yourself in the series’ world, featuring cast discussions and live dubbing. Please join us for this Iron-Blooded Orphans 10th Anniversary celebration, as a thank you to all our fans.”

Currently, there hasn’t been an official announcement about a sequel to Iron-Blooded Orphans, despite the Gundam series consistently finding success with returning to established storylines. A prime example is the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, which led to the creation of the most successful film in the entire anime series. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom remains the highest-grossing Gundam movie to date, demonstrating that fans are eager to revisit familiar mech-based narratives.

If you haven’t yet seen Iron-Blooded Orphans, this fifty-episode series is definitely worth your time. While Mikazuki’s story isn’t set in the main Mobile Suit Gundam universe, it cleverly uses the giant robot setting. Good news – you can currently watch the show on Crunchyroll as part of its tenth-anniversary celebration.
