Moby is looking back at his and Natalie Portman’s differing recollections of their past.
In his 2019 memoir, musician Moby claimed he briefly dated actress Natalie Portman in 1999, when he was 33 and she was 18. Portman strongly denied this. For years, Moby maintained that they had a relationship, but he now sees things a bit differently.
He told The Times in an interview on February 20th that he was struggling to understand the situation. When asked if it was an unfortunate disagreement between two good people, the 60-year-old said he generally agreed with that assessment, as much as he could see things clearly.
Natalie, now 44, publicly responded to Moby’s description of their brief relationship in his memoir. In a 2019 interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she explained that she remembered things very differently. “I was surprised he called it dating,” she said, “because I recall him being an older man who made me uncomfortable.”
She recalled meeting him backstage after a concert, and he’d hinted they could become friends.
We barely had any time together – he was touring, and I was busy filming a movie. After just a few encounters, I started to feel uncomfortable with his attention, as it seemed inappropriate given our age difference.

Not long after, Moby addressed her denial and issued an apology to her.
Looking back, I’ve come to see that a lot of the criticism I received about including Natalie in Then It Fell Apart was completely justified. I really should have told her beforehand that she’d be in the book, and it was wrong of me not to respect how she felt about it. I truly understand where everyone was coming from now.
He went on to say that he greatly admires Natalie – her intelligence, creativity, and dedication to animal rights – and he’s truly sorry if he’s caused her or her family any pain.
The Grammy-nominated artist also addressed the 14-year age gap in their relationship, stating they should have been more considerate and respectful when they and Natalie first connected nearly 20 years ago.

He continued to address the issue publicly, and a few years later, admitted to some regrets about the memoir. However, he still didn’t believe Natalie’s description of what happened as being unsettling or inappropriate.
In a 2021 interview with The Guardian, Moby said he wouldn’t describe his past behavior with a single label. However, he admitted that when he struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, he often acted selfishly and hurt his family, friends, partners, and colleagues.
Natalie and Moby are still publicly discussing a disagreement from when they first met in 1999. This isn’t the only time celebrities have publicly clashed – read on for more examples.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is shown second from the left in the picture.)
He told Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay despite a personal issue they’ve been dealing with. He emphasized that the situation is between the two of them and isn’t related to their work on the show. He also clarified that it wasn’t a romantic issue, but something personal that had been developing over time.
In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.
We held a thorough casting process for the role,” he explained on Instagram. “I didn’t recommend my friend for the part, they earned it fair and square. And I definitely didn’t help them get the job by pushing anyone else out.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that actor Danny Masterson, known from “That ’70s Show,” was the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a very rude and unpleasant person.
He did not respond to her remarks publicly.
Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed annoyed when he was on The Talk in 2014, after she mispronounced his name.
She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this field?’ She responded sharply, telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I’ll completely overwhelm you.’ She added, ‘You have no idea who you’re talking to.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed being feminine.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d ever met. She explained that this was because Bure once declined to take a photo with her at a red carpet event, which Siwa felt was a rejection. Soon after, Bure publicly apologized, saying she had hurt Siwa’s feelings when she was eleven years old and expressing sincere regret for not taking the picture.
Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in holiday films, she said it wouldn’t. She explained that the network would continue to focus on stories about traditional marriage.
JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, said on Instagram that the actress’s comment was offensive and caused pain to many people.

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed that Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for Courtney’s band, Hole, in a promotional photo without proper credit. Olivia responded with a supportive message, saying, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, acknowledging Olivia’s response and offering to share the contact information for her favorite florist in London, hinting she expected a thank-you note.

While on Watch What Happens Live, the Happy Days actor explained the reason he and the Forrest Gump star didn’t get along while filming their 1989 movie, Turner & Hooch.
I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, told me to go home – that I had everything I needed, he said.
Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along famously. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.
He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”
Anyone who watched The Hills likely remembers that famous line from Lauren during the third season’s premiere. The drama between them started when Heidi began dating her future husband, Spencer Pratt, and escalated when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and her then-boyfriend, Jason Wahler, involving a sex tape.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out in 2017, starting with an Instagram post by Tyrese complaining about the delay of Fast & Furious 9 until April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced, slated for release in 2019. The next month, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson was still involved.
Tyrese recently discussed the conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on the The Red Pill podcast that he still hasn’t spoken to Johnson directly, but plans to. He mentioned he did speak with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.
Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations on behalf of others connected to the franchise. He explained he was the one who spoke out, and he takes responsibility for that, calling it unprofessional and inappropriate.

No more bad blood here.
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had a long-running public disagreement, rumored to be the inspiration behind Swift’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which supposedly began over a disagreement about a dancer and competition between their concert tours, ended when Perry sent Swift an actual olive branch as a peace offering before Swift’s Reputation Tour began.
Taylor Swift shared a video on Instagram explaining that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room and said it meant a lot to her.
Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and made some pointed remarks about her co-star.
During a September 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they had only ever been coworkers, not friends.
She was deeply upset, explaining that she felt heartbroken about something. She and I had discussed it during that week because she didn’t remember things the same way and found it really disturbing.
It’s definitely sad, but I believe what really connected us was the shared experience we all had. It started as a job, but over the years, it became something personal because it took up so much of our lives. I’m hoping that those years of doing something special, and the connection we all felt, will ultimately be more important than anything that’s been said recently. It was a real privilege to be a part of something so meaningful with so many people.
And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award at the Q Awards that year, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously said, “Madonna, best live act? That’s ridiculous!” and questioned her use of lip-syncing, suggesting anyone who lip-syncs during a paid concert shouldn’t be allowed to perform.

The actress, formerly on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator in 2008 when she asked to no longer be considered for an Emmy Award. She explained that she didn’t think her storylines that season were strong enough to deserve a nomination.
I’ll never forget when Shonda talked about Katherine’s choice on Oprah’s show back in 2012. She admitted it hurt, but honestly, she wasn’t completely shocked. She said something that really stuck with me: ‘When people show you who they are, believe them.’ It’s become a little rule I live by, and it’s honestly helped me so much over the years.

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week became a major news story. A month later, Cardi explained what she said started the argument with Nicki.
Cardi B recently told W magazine that someone has been repeatedly criticizing her. She explained that she’d tried to resolve the issue with this person twice, and they seemed to agree, but the criticism continued.
The conflict really escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had seemingly liked, then unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting. Nicki has said she didn’t actually do that.
Cardi B explained she turned down a potentially very profitable Bruno Mars tour because she wanted to be with her daughter. She strongly emphasized her love for her daughter and her dedication as a mother, and expressed frustration that someone without children would criticize her choices. She also pointed out that opportunities to meet artists are rare, and she wasn’t going to pass up a chance encounter just because of where it happened.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.
I noticed something really interesting last February! The day before the Grammys in 2025, Kanye suddenly only followed Taylor on Instagram. It was a super random move, and he didn’t say anything about why he did it. Taylor hasn’t publicly acknowledged it either, which makes the whole thing even more intriguing, honestly. As a longtime fan of both of them, I’ve been keeping a close eye on it!

“I don’t know her.”
The rumored rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez began in 2003 during a German television interview. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey famously stated, “I don’t know her.”
