Apple TV+’s hit show, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, is returning for a second season this year. Although trailers hint at the return of iconic monsters, we haven’t seen any epic battles yet. Surprisingly, early concept art for the first season showed a huge crossover event featuring multiple monsters – something that could become a major moment for Legendary’s MonsterVerse. With the new season launching February 27th, this crossover might finally happen in 2026.
Early concept art for the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters revealed plans for a battle between Godzilla and Kong, similar to the fights seen in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It’s unclear why this fight was ultimately removed from the show, but fans have always enjoyed seeing these two titans clash. Monarch focused on the history of the MonsterVerse, so the fight could have been a flashback to their 2021 battle or even an earlier confrontation. Although the second season of Monarch won’t feature a Godzilla vs. Kong fight, they’ll meet again on the big screen next year in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. You can see the concept art below.

The Kaiju Are Fighting
In addition to a second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the MonsterVerse is expanding with a new TV series. Apple TV announced late last year that they’re creating a spin-off that revisits earlier events. This new show will center around a younger version of Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell. While there’s no release date yet, it shows Apple’s strong belief in the future of the MonsterVerse.
Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will continue the story with the future of Monarch—and the world—at stake. The new season will bring our main characters, both heroes and villains, back together on Skull Island, and introduce a mysterious new village and a powerful Titan emerging from the ocean. Past events will have significant consequences in the present, complicating relationships and making it hard to tell who is friend or foe, all while the threat of a major Titan attack looms.
The next MonsterVerse movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is scheduled to be released on March 26, 2027. While the plot is still under wraps, there’s a lot of talk that Space Godzilla will be the main villain in this latest installment.
