More details are emerging about Robert Downey Jr.’s first appearance as Doctor Doom in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday. The film is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
Who are the potential members of Doctor Doom’s Avengers: Doomsday team?
A new rumor circulating on X (formerly Twitter) suggests Doctor Doom will lead his own team of villains in the upcoming Avengers movie. According to Muzahid Mateen, this team, initially called the “Harbingers of Doom,” could include characters like Captain Hydra, Maestro Hulk, King Thanos, and different versions of Doctor Doom himself. While Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus denied the team would be called the “Harbingers of Doom,” they seemed to confirm the team’s existence in the movie, which is currently titled Avengers: Doomsday.
Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the new Avengers movie, currently titled ‘Doomsday,’ with a screenplay by Stephen McFeely. The film will bring back familiar faces like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans, and will also star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The next Avengers movie will bring back several familiar faces from the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. There’s also been talk that characters like Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, and Spider-Man could make an appearance in the film.
